Famagustian hangouts?

Postby Nikitas » Thu May 28, 2015 12:17 am

Where do the displaced residents of Famagusta hang out? Anyone know of hangouts etc?

I mean besides Anorthosi clubhouses.

There is a place called the 'Famagusta Yacht Club' on the Limassol sea front road, somewhere near the junction with Griva Digeni. I am not sure if this is just a name or if it is a Famagustian hangout.

Does anyone remember the actual Famagusta hangouts pre 1974? We used to go to the Boccachio (not sure of spelling) coffee bar/bar, I remember sitting their one evening with some friends when I saw a local lad tearing down the road on a moped, he wasn't looking where he was going and crashed straight into the side of my Dad's car that I had borrowed for the evening. Another time a sheep we saw a stray sheep being chased down the street by a local shopkeeper who had kleftiko in mind. There was a band that used to play there I think it was called "Pitsikas and his Macedonian Quartet". Great days, used to meet up with a former college friend who ran his Dad's cloth wholesale business.
