MILTIADES THE .....SPEED KID !!!

" The National Speed Awareness Scheme is an innovative scheme that has been put in place by police forces across the UK to allow motorists caught speeding to complete a workshop rather than be issued with three penalty points and a £60 fine.

Each force appoints a member of the ANDISP (Association of National Driver Improvement Course Providers) to oversee and deliver the courses in their particular area. ANDISP has been established to make sure that such courses have a quality standard and are consistent in their teachings. The format and content of courses may vary from area to area but all have to meet stringent requirements so that they achieve their objective of ensuring the driver understands the dangers of speeding and does not speed in the future."

Notice " THE DRIVER UNDERSTANDS THE DANGERS OF SPEEDING etc etc !!!!!

I started driving way back in 1971 on passing my driving test at the ripe ...old age of 25 !!! That's 44 years ago.

I have never really liked driving like some people and although I have had some fast cars, speed was never a part of driving, perhaps the reason that after almost half a century of driving I have a brilliant clean license, have never had any endorsements and have never been prosecuted for any driving offence.

Now, some whizz kid thinks that Im in need of being made aware of the dangers of speed and need to attend the relative course so that at the age of 69 I become aware that speed kills. !!!
The alternative was to pay a fine of £100 and 3 points on my pristine license !!!

Well, I don't take kindly to stupidity, will elaborate if anyone is interested !!! Im sure ....GR is

Oh .... coincidence....

Nearly 40 years after passing the test, with a never blemished licence, the boy racer BillC had to go on one of those.

November of last year, returning from Bristol on the M4, a nice clear day as I recall, driving at about 70 miles or just under, came across a stretch of the motorway that the speed limit had been reduced to 60 MPH .Must confess I did not notice and continue at about 70 miles, many cars overtaking me doing a lot more than 70.

A few days later a speeding fine arrived, pay £100 and send your licence for points to be added or alternatively attend a ....rehabilitation course.

I wrote a letter stating some facts and also expressing my dismay at being asked to attend a course after careful and fine free period of 44 years. I requested that the case goes to court.

The camera recorded the exceedingly high speed of ...69 mph in a 60 mile stretch of the motorway, I thought how bizarre , and petty minded, after all I was on the motorway and was driving at a constant speed of around 70 miles an hour. So I did not notice the reduction of SL , does this make me a careless driver requiring an awareness course ?

Will attend court which is in Bath, a favourite city for me so I will spend the day relaxing in ....Bath !!

Tuesday coming is my case !! I shall of course plead guilty to doing 69 mph but I will also express my reluctance to accept attendance to cure my ...speed addiction.

When you go to court....just tell them that the speed you were doing was fuck all compared to the speed you were doing when you shot off to England when the shit hit the fan in Cyprus.

You were probably more alert in them days... you must have seen the signs [not like on the motorway] and decided to shoot off a bit sharpish and live in the land of the enemies of your own country.

I was "done" for speeding a few years ago Milti, driving between Bristol and Bath. I did the speed awareness course and avoided three points on my licence. You will need to tell your insurers about the speeding conviction and it may affect your premium. I actually found the course quite useful.

Im rather hopefull that the court will take into account my excellent driving record stretching back more than 40 years, well it should I feel.

I considered a course as totally unwarranted since I dont need anyone lecturing me of the dangers of speed. I hate speed and frankly Ialso hate driving. I prefer my wine and ....blondes!!!

Good luck in the Court, I too had an unblemished record of 40+ years and was only 6mph over the limit but still got done.
Watch your speed when you go back to Bath. :D
