Silverlight issue

Postby B25 » Mon Jun 22, 2015 8:44 am

To any of the computer boffs out there.

I am trying to use an application within explorer (chrome). Using windows 7.

Up until now was working fine. Now it asks me to install Silverlight, which I have done, but then does not recognise the installation.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled but to no avail.

The app works ok in my old explorer.

Any ideas?????

Your question is a bit too broad to answer.

Which application is causing you problems?

Do other things that need Silverlight also not work?

Given that Silverlight is ".NET" based then a problem with your .NET framework installation would almost certainly lead to anything .NET reliant to not work.

If you like, with all programs closed do a 1. CTRL+ALT+DEL, 2. Task Manager, and then 3. CTRL+PRTSCN to grab an image of what's running in memory and post the image here.

You can paste the image you've grabbed in Ms Paint and save it as a PNG or JPG.

In other words if we can see a full screen of your Task Manager...

...it may answer the question. I'll tell you if you've got crap lurking around.

Quick notes/observations:
----------------------------------------------------------

You've got too much bullshit loading into memory at idle.

I see about two dozen apps loading their crap into memory when they shouldn't be.

Even "RemotelyAnywhere" loads in your system (via logmeinsystray) offering a nice open door for outsiders!

A healthy system only has Windows drivers and services loaded at idle.

I'll bet your system runs like a snail!

You've also got some conflicting products...

1. McAfee anti virus

2. AVG Security Toolbar

You should never have two anti-virus products installed, although the best is ZERO because they're all crap anyway.
I'd remove them both and replace with Malwarebytes.

I see a problematic driver... highlight and kill the process IAStorIcon.exe and see if that's solved your problem.

However, it will load up again at the next reboot unless you remove it properly from the boot list. (run > msconfig > etc)

I see no .NET problems from this.

Remedy:
-------------------------
This system needs a good 3-4 hours of OS service and fine tuning which should also fix the Silverlight issue.

I doubt you'll be able to fix this mess yourself.

Got rid of the app, still no good. And yes you are right, I cannot do by myself. don't have the patience for this kind of stuff.

So, I plod along using the old explorer when I need to use the app.

Thanks for our replies all the same.

Oh right… so it works in ONE browser but not the other!

Now you tell me…

Open a new window in Chrome and paste this…

chrome://plugins/

Your problem may be solved in there. ie: Is the Silverlight plugin enabled even?
