EU's secret fear about Greece

The fear is that if Greece leaves the euro, the country will return to prosperity — and then other countries might follow suit.

As you can see, Greece with the bad old drachma had double the economic growth of Greece under the euro. Double. And it wasn’t alone.

Italy, Spain and Portugal tell similar stories. Their economic growth back in the 1980s and 1990s, when they were “struggling” with the lira, the peseta, and the escudo, makes a mockery of their performance under the German-dominated euro.

Apparently having control of your own national currency and your own monetary policy works well with having your own government and your own national sovereignty.

Who knew?

The currency is not the only problem for Greece...

I think a more thorough plan for growth must be set by the Greek government. A plan that will increase exports and decrease imports.

There is a major cost to join this EU-club. Greece and Cyprus knew it before joining. The only promise/expectation in return was security against the Turks - the veto etc. But knowing this, the EU has stung Greece and Cyprus the hardest.

Now I guess, the EU's fear is that Russia has become a bigger player and there is competition to join their club!

Germany is the powerhouse of the eu, it controls pretty much every member state. and may I remind you all these member states as there called are countrys in dare own right not states as the eu calls them. when the greeks would,nt play Germany,s game anymore the Germanys squeezed Greece hard till they give in. I seen a german eu minster on sky news saying that they would,nt tolerate Greece,s behaviour, and that they would not do deals with a greek left wing government, were did they get that from? the greeks voted for that government, and the greek government was only doing what its people wanted them to do. and all this coming from a far right Germany government. and while Germany is in control no eu country will prosper, cause they are superpower within Europe and that will not change. we will be having a vote on leaving the eu in a few years time and I know for a stone cold fact that the uk will vote to leave the eu. many eu countrys will be watching the uk closely and you will find that slowly after us more eu countrys will leave. as for Germany it might have lost two major European wars but it got dare in the end, but for how much longer/ we will have to wait and see!

I think the EU should stay as it is but the euro should be fazed out.

Each country should revert back to their own currency and regain control of their monetary policy.

A European army should also be established.
