I don't think so. Cyprus won 5 gold medals at the games of the small states of Europe (best team, much better than Malta, Luxembourg, Wales, Andorra and Ireland).
AEL Limassol won the FIBA Europe Regional Challenge Cup in 2003; Apoel, Keravnos, Achilleas have played a lot of europeans cups like EuroLeague (basketball's Champions League) and old Korak and Saporta Cup.
AEL also eliminated powerful PAOK in 2006 (EuroCup).

Impressive... NOT!

We are only better than basketball minnows, like Ireland and UK!

No better than UK but better than Ireland, Iceland, Malta, Luxembourg, Albania, etc.
We also beat Romania at Timisoara in 2009.
Our basketball teams are good if you compare them with other teams from small countries like Ireland, Denmark, and also Holland.

Let's hope they can progress further... AEK's opponents so far were very weak.

Well, this is the third-tier competition in Europe. That's logic.
