The fact is that Cyprus even if they won Greece and the next game with Belgium (which was already "indifferent" but they still won Bosnia away) we still had no chance of qualifying. Greece has a chance of qualifying. For real Cypriots the national team of Greece is our second national team, and we want to see Greece in the World Cup. Those that would prefer to see some other team in the World Cup instead of Greece are simply not real Cypriots. The qualification game for Cyprus was lost in the games against Estonia. We could have won both of those games, and if we did we would have a real chance to qualify and then we could have tried harder to beat Greece (but Greece is anyway a better team, so winning them would not be easy regardless)

Sorry Sotos but thats a load of bullshit...You either have self respect or you don't. That Greek team could've been beaten easily, this was a eurovision setup and the Greeks know it. You want to support a team that represents the Ethnos? By all means, but the Greek team ain't the one. They represent the State of Greece politically and geographically and not Hellenism any more than the Cypriot one does. There isn't an ethnic Greek team the same way there isn't an ethnic Irish team that Americans Irish would choose to support over the USA team. The confusion occurs in the Greek translation, NATIONAL teams belong to States while in Greek we call them Ethnikes Omades that pertain to Ethnos.

This match was a shit show and just goes to prove that a Cypriot is capable of picking a fight with his shadow.

It is not about supporting the Greek team over the Cyprus team. It is about preferring to have the Greek team play in the World Cup instead of some other 3rd country. And the great majority of Cypriots do support the Greek team after the Cyprus team... and I am sure you do as well. Just look at how many people flooded the roads of Cyprus when Greece won the Euro. So would you prefer to have Cyprus win or draw a single game, rather than having Greece play in the World Cup? Your point would be valid if by winning we had a chance to qualify instead of Greece. But this was not the case so your point is totally wrong.

I went to every single game in Portugal for Greece at the time, from the first game to the final. No one was happier than I was. But if they couldn't beat the Cypriot team on merit na tous sheso.

For real cypriots the only national team is Cyprus.
I prefer Iceland or Ireland over Greece. And Cap is right the second half against Greece was a disaster, the game against Bosnia was totally different, and Bosnia played with Greece for the second position. Yes, Cyprus helped Greece, that's the truth.

After such disgrace nobody will be going to the stadiums to see our national team any more for a very long time… just when the Cypriot spectator was starting to trust their team and begun showing up in their thousands we’ve set ourselves back by at least 5 years again!

How are you so sure that Greece didn't beat Cyprus on merit? We didn't manage to win the much weaker Estonia and barely won Gibraltar at a time when qualification was still open. How are you so sure that we could win Greece at a time when our team didn't have any real motivation? You come to this conclusion just because of some mistakes that were made? Worst mistakes were made in other games, several of them by Panagi. Nobody said that those mistakes were made intentionally back then. Crappy performance and mistakes is something we have seen many times before. The only thing that was different in this game is that our team didn't have any motivation since we were already disqualified and we had no reason to prefer another team to pass to the World Cup instead of Greece.
