LEDRA STREET PUZZLE

Postby Nikitas » Sat Aug 15, 2015 11:08 am

Last week I decided to arrive in Cyprus incognito so I could see some things free of relatives' "interference".

So I sat in the evening in Ledra street, nursing one of those effeminate strawberry margueritas that are in fashion, and watched the pedestrian traffic, hence the puzzle.

Hundreds of GCs walked with a brisk pace towards the Lokmaci gates and went north. Many TCs emerged from the crossing point and went south. All of them with a brisk pace, from which I assumed they were going to specific and known locations, these people were not strolling, they were hurrying somewhere.

Anyone know more about Nicosia life and the comings and goings to tell me what was going on? The scene was intriguing.

The vast majority who head for the end of Ledras street turn right at the end of it and continue back up via the parallel Onasagorou street where dozens of eateries are located. All the action was at a street behind you running parallel to Ledras.

I’d say about 5% would continue straight into the occupied territory... perhaps less.

while you were there, you could have selected a few and asked them, you lazy sod. is it really that hard. I was almost at the same place a year ago and there was no such traffic. the fellow serving did not have enough change for a 10 euro note and had to go get it. the till was empty.

The TCs were coming to get their RoC ID cards, passports, pensions and free medical tratment. The GCs were probablygoing for the poutanes and gambling.

How do you know the till was empty? Did you raid it first?

Cypriots wouldn't go anywhere far on foot. If they were not just strolling at Lydras they were just going to a cafe or shop nearby.
