I don't think he is promoting idiocy at all. I also believe that EUPEDIA is quite a good and interesting website with a lot of information.

The lunacy is coming from you because of your constant rants and hyper-sensitivity to the subject. I can't comment about the accuracy or validity of the DNA data. In all probability, DNA is probably a very dubious way to derive significant scientific fact such as where we come from because there are other factors at play such as environmental.

However, we migrated from the Levant whilst Greeks migrated from the North. Hence some significant correlations with people that live there. This much they do know.

You didn't like what I wrote earlier. No of course not!

But it doesn't change its validity or that these thoughts are shared by many Greeks. You see, a lot have had a very rude awakening my dear, and they see the writing on the wall. They can see what Greece has become and some have very strong opinions why this has happened and are more than capable to self reflect back to their own society. Many are fearful and worried.

You see, Greece is not the same as Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Italy or Cyprus. All these countries are progressing well. They rolled their sleeves.

Greece on the other hand put on an idiotic show for the last 9 months (as enjoyable as it was to see the Europeans squirm a little bit). It wouldn't have been idiotic if they actually went through with it. But since they were not prepared to do so, why put up this show in the first place and end up with egg on their faces?

So don't worry about DNA. Let's look at the mentality first and foremost and analyse their actions. Let's look how they voted for a incompetent Tsipras Government which doesn't even have the leadership to Govern or make a single decision without going to the people soon as things get a little hot. How will Greece recover with this kind of lunacy?

And more significantly, let's see how Syriza will get more votes than anyone else and form another idiotic Government. If this happened in most other countries, they would be lucky to get 2%. This Government is unfit to Govern GIG.

The tragedy of course is that they ousted a significantly better Government (Samaras) who had also well and truly rolled his sleeves and was telling everyone to do the same.

Then of course we criticize the foreign media for making a spectacle of Greece. Do you blame them GIG? Look at the messages they are getting. Greece made a spectacle of itself and of course most of the people don't deserve it. We seem to have some false attachments to false ideologies and dogmas so much so we have a great mistrust of the EU, USA, NATO among other things. Excuse me, but did anyone tell Greece that no one really cares what they think and worse still that it is not taken very seriously.

Something is WRONG GIG!!!! WHAT IS IT?

First, you need to identify that there is a problem before you can fix it. Then identify the problem and maybe the country can do something about it. Previous Governments refused to do this because all they were interested in was being re-elected. No one will vote in a Government which has axed 100,000 Public Sector jobs and raised income tax and introduce other taxes such as IPT etc.

But that is exactly what the Government needed to do a long time ago.

What about this idea some Greeks have that the politicians stole from the public purse and all they were interested in is having their hands in the cooky jar and fill their bellies.

Yes, it would seem to a working class illiterate fool that politicians are well remunerated. I don't believe they are remunerated enough for doing such a shitty job and always being in the public eye. I couldn't do it anyway. Too much pressure and stress for me.

They get all their other perks - phone, fuel, car, travel and many things more. I mean honestly, where is the problem here? They probably deserve it all if they do their job properly and Govern in the National Interest. If they do this, they don't get enough for doing this shitty job on our behalf.

I am only aware of 1 instance where a Greek politician stole from the public purse. He wrongly issued Siemens with a procurement order for 6 German Built Submarines (which were defective btw) and he got paid for his trouble into a Swiss Bank Account for all his trouble of awarding the contract to Siemens. Well, the scandal was uncovered and Tsohatsopoulos is serving some serious time behind bars. The Cypriot Defence Minister from AKEL (surprise surprise) was also in on this act and should be serving time too.

But I can't say that politicians are doing this generally, or even stealing a red cent as is often said.

The problem is elsewhere and once again, I am looking in the direction of the Greek People, but also the Governments of Greece for not having the backbone to issue some bad medicine. That is what we elect them for? Isn't it? We elect them to look after the National Interest and make the tough decisions. Well not in Greece!

Firstly, everyone wants their place in the world so they turn to the Government as if the Government owes them the world. Well sorry, but the Government owes them nothing other than try to provide infrastructure, a Health System, a Judiciary, Defence, Customs, Law Enforcement, Education etc etc. It certainly is no one's cash cow and as we all know, they just simply don't have enough money to go round. The Governments of Greece on the other hand, gifted thousands upon thousands of jobs to their followers all for votes.

This might be a factor GIG. I'm not saying it caused the crisis, but there is certainly something wrong if you want to put all the blame on politicians. When will the people take some responsibility? Some do, but not that many. I for one am willing to take responsibility because I did some of the shit I allude to. Yes I was more than willing to accept corruption because it was in my favour.

Ancient Greeks are a mythology and the LACK of such genes is testament to that.

Science might not lie, but you certainly do. :P

The presence or absence of genetic heterogeneity in Sicily has long been debated. Through the analysis of the variation of Y-chromosome lineages, using the combination of haplogroups and short tandem repeats from several areas of Sicily, we show that traces of genetic flows occurred in the island, due to ancient Greek colonization and to northern African contributions, are still visible on the basis of the distribution of some lineages. The genetic contribution of Greek chromosomes to the Sicilian gene pool is estimated to be about 37% whereas the contribution of North African populations is estimated to be around 6%.

In particular, the presence of a modal haplotype coming from the southern Balkan Peninsula and of its one-step derivates associated to E3b1a2-V13, supports a common genetic heritage between Sicilians and Greeks. The estimate of Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor is about 2380 years before present, which broadly agrees with the archaeological traces of the Greek classic era.

No genes from ancient Greeks, huh?

The PCA analysis also highlights the high affinity of the Minoans to the current inhabitants of the Lassithi plateau as well as Greece. Among the top 10 nearest neighbours to our Minoan population sample, four are Greek populations and two of these from Lassithi prefecture (Fig. 5). The close relationship of the Minoans to modern Cretans is also apparent, when analysis is restricted to populations originating from Greece (Fig. 6b). Particularly in respect to the first PCA (capturing 92% of the variance of this particular subset of the data), the Minoans are extremely close to the modern Lassithi population, the populations from the islands of Chios and Euboea, as well as the populations of Argolis and Lakonia (Southern Greece ) (Fig. 6b). Thus, the modern inhabitants of the Lassithi plateau still carry the maternal genetic signatures of their ancient predecessors of the Minoan population.
