It's all fairy tales of course, as 90% of the people who died or suffered for supporting an independent Cyprus were Greek Cypriots.

The Turkish Cypriot struggle wasn't one of survival and it was certainly not one of keeping Cyprus independent. It was a power struggle, and it still is to its very core.

...in any case, like "you" say, reality on the ground, the world has changed, and if we are to adapt so that our future is better secured, Cyprus, and a Cypriot People, is still a better choice than what our "Greeks" and our "Turks" have brought us to. Wake up! Taksim was meant to divide Cyprus and one part get united with Greece and another with Turkey.
Unless of course you are so dumb to beleive the taksimed part would become a mini trncunt, between new greece and Turkey.
Makarios was elected because after 400 years under the Ottomans the GCs knew of only one leader. Their priest.
in reality he had an opponent once, Evdokas. This guy was pro immediate Enosis.He got something like 3%. Therefore Enosis was not the criterion by which people voted. All attempted murders against Makarios ( 3 actually,in one of those they shot his helicopter down) were from fanatic pro Enosists. is that telling you anything?
Enosis was a dream in decline after independence. It's true that it still had support but not as before.A huge part of Akel was against and many businessmen too. I would say between 1968 and 1974 it should get about 60-70%. Probably the same should be for taksim among the Tcs.
