Mad, Bad and Extremely Dangerous Erdogan ...

Postby GreekIslandGirl » Thu Dec 03, 2015 9:53 pm

OMG - what a mad, bad and dangerous egotist to have for a leader in a country with such archaic barbaric laws!

Peter Jackson has found himself in the odd situation of having to define the difference between Gollum and Smeagol in a defamation court case in Turkey.

Laws in Turkey ban insulting public figures, and now a doctor who posted a meme of Turkish president Recep Tayyip comparing him to the ‘Lord of the Rings’ character faces jail.

Bilgin Ciftci shared the picture, which shows Tayyip next to pictures of Smeagol/Gollum, but could be incarcerated for four years if convicted of insulting the premier.

So his legal team sought help from Jackson and the writers of the movies, claiming that the president is pictured with Smeagol, and not Gollum in the meme Ciftci posted, which has different connotations.

As we know from the books and the movies, Smeagol, originally a genial hobbit, became enchanted by the One Ring, murdering his relative Deagol for it, and developing his malignant alter-ego Gollum.

It's ridiculous for sure, and just goes to show how backward Turkey is.

However, Pootin is MUCH MUCH worse. One of the biggest criminals of our time!

From the content of your posts, I can only assume that you would have been soaring in the clouds with happiness if Putin was the U.S.A president instead.

No that can't happen.

We are a peaceful loving population in the west who aspire to law and order and a fair system.

Plus, he would rip off the public purse of several Billions into his Swiss Bank Accounts.

We have far higher standards, so Pootin just don't cut it at all. Erdogan won't cut it either. They would probably end up in jail.

I revealed the truth about President Erdogan and Syria. For that, he had me jailed

Can Dündar
Monday 28 December 2015

Turkey’s regime not only smuggled guns into Syria, it used ‘state security’ as an excuse to imprison the journalists who reported it.

In Turkey, a debate as old as government itself is on the agenda again. This time, it is the Turkish government’s secret arms transfer to Syria that has revitalised the subject.

Early in 2014, a truck understood to belong to the Turkish intelligence service (MIT) was stopped near the Syrian border. The gendarmerie and the intelligence officials in control of the convoy pulled guns on each other. This was the moment the two blocks vying to rule the state came face to face. The truck was searched. Beneath the camouflage composed of medicines boxes, weapons and ammunition were found. The truck was held for a while, but following the intervention of government officials a safe passage into Syria was granted.

The government immediately discharged the prosecutor and gendarmerie who stopped the convoy and had them arrested. It was declared that the trucks contained humanitarian aid. This incident, which fuelled allegations that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s government was intervening in the Syrian civil war, was rapidly covered up.

As a journalist detained in solitary confinement in a prison in İstanbul, faced with accusations of “espionage”, I have been seeking answers to these questions. My conclusion is that no label of “state secret” and no rationale for “state security” permits a state crime. Thus I defend myself with Winston Churchill’s words: “The Official Secrets Act was devised to protect the national defence … and ought not to be used to shield ministers who have a strong personal interest in concealing the truth.”

How does anyone guarantee that this sort of lunacy doesn't come into Cyprus? Imagine the field day Turks would have in a Cyprus with no judicial review or due process
