Yes, you can take some pride in that too as his 'intelligence' is down in the swamp next to yours. :P

I make no claims about my intelligence....and who cares for your views about the intelligence of either myself or LondonRake any way...

You have, to me at least, conclusively demonstrated that you are incapable of rational debate, on some topics any way, and thst being so, all you are reduced to is trying to be mean and spiteful. In my view you cannot even do that very well. You persisitently use epithets like racist or imperialist, so much so that coming from you they cease to have meaning, and serve little purpose but demonstrate your own bitterness, to those to whom you apply such labels, that is to say anyone who does not share your rosy tinted but blinkered if world view, and who are prepared to stand their ground.

You should know by now that I will stand mine.

And now it makes the press....

Nothing unsurprising here.

Bye Bye Carrefour, Bye Bye!

Looking foward to seeing what will change beyond the disappearance of Carrefour own-brand products.

Two months on and big changes in the store, with major replacement and re-organisation of the shelves, with lower height shelving, new freezer and chiller cabinets and possibly re-flooring. Many of the internal floor to ceiling walls have gone. The ground floor in particular looks a lot lighter and open in feel, at present, though this is all a work in progress and I expect some of the very open areas may get filled up a bit. The meat counter has been completely changed, moved to an Island position.

Upstairs too has been extensively revamped.

The new owners, Sklavenitis, are clearly working very hard to make it a better. Just hope they can succeed in what is a very competitive market, in particular with Lidl in town.

Lidl is on the other side of the town and from what I remember (haven't been there for 2 years) they don't have a big variety and they miss many brands. They called me for a survey recently... apparently there will be two new supermarkets opening in the area soon. One is between Sklavenitis Columbia and the Germasogia roundabout (near Smart), apparently a bit smaller that Alpha Mega Linopetra. The other one is near K-Cineplex ... I am guessing is those warehouses that used to be a club and I can see being renovated when passing from the Motorway. These two supermarkets might have a new name, or they might be Alpha Mega, Papantoniou or Lidl.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Sotos goes to one of these hot new supermarkets but cannot find the entrance door so he asks someone in the parking lot for help and the response is…

“You have to download and install the entrance extension for this supermarket to work”

So Sotos downloads and installs this extension and indeed a grand entrance door appears so he proceeds to enter the supermarket but now finds that all the supermarket shelves are missing… :?

n.

There are two Lidls on the other side of town, one in Ypsonas, next to Papantonio, the other on FDR just past Keo.

Curiously it takes me less time to get to the one at Ypsonas than the one closer to me, near Keo. I agree the brand range is limited and mostly, in reality, "own label"' but we have found that many of the products are of acceptable quality, in some rare cases , eg Greek Cheese pies, better than elsewhere, and represent good value for money. We can in fact fulfil most of weekly shopping needs there, and for those products which we cannot or do not want to get there, we can nip to Papantonio.

Otherwise AlphaMega Linopetra is the most convenient larger supermarket. It is the one the wife tends to prefer, followed by Ypsonas. Some in our "village" are Ok but tend to be be a bit pricier, and parking is crap. We sometimes use AlphaMega on Ayia Fylaxi.

The new Lidl is by K Ciniplex. For us it may be a game changer as it will be just about the quickest supermarket to get to. I estimate seven minutes without breaking the law. Interested to see where another one will fit in between Sklaventis and the roundabout, unless they are going to fill the land between the fat mans's frutaria at the traffic lights and the Columbia building. That will make that end of town crowded, with Alpha Mega, Sklavenits, Pappas, Smart, the Fat man, Metro, etc and then Lidl all quite close.
