Thanks for flagging up that article. Has the West been misreading Erdoğan and political Islam in Turkey for years, or has something changed to make the West now drop him and his movement?

B25 so many monsters created and supported initally by the yanks to support their own means over the last 40 or so years, or even longer if you include the shar in Iran. Build them up and then kick em in the balls when not convinient anymore. It's an ongoing trait ..

I'm very optimistic that this lunatic's time is up. The arrest of Reza Zarrab must have him worried. Come on USA, bring this man down, you owe it not only to Turkey but to the whole civilised world.

It is interesting that Zarrab who may be facing possible long jail sentence in the USA if convicted, refused to seek bail and try to flee the country. Could it be perhaps he feels much safer in US custody than being on bail where Erdogan's hit-men could silence him for good.

I have never heard of anyone not seeking bail by choice and instead chooses to remain in jail.
Zarrab declines to seek bail, will be transferred to New York

Reza Zarrab, the controversial Turkish-Iranian businessman who was arrested in the U.S. last month on charges that he and others conspired to conduct hundreds of millions of dollars in financial transactions for the Iranian government or other entities to evade U.S. sanctions, waived a right to a bond hearing in Miami, Florida.

U.S. Judge Edwin Torres accepted a petition by Zarrab”s lawyer Lee Stapleton, who withdrew from a bail hearing and the court ruled on canceling the April 4 session. Zarrab will now be sent to New York but no exact date for his first hearing has been marked.

“Reza Zarrab declines to seek bail in Florida court, to be transported to New York for further proceedings,” said New York prosecutor Preet Bharara, who presented the indictment about Zarrab, in a posting on his twitter account.

He may be a marked man in more than one place! It is curious that he moved to Dubai in the run-up to the November 2015 rerun Turkish general elections and returned to Turkey after the AKP (under suspicious circumstances in my view) got an absolute majority.
