Turkey is NOT a Guarantor of the Entire island!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkey is NOT a Guarantor of the Entire island!

Postby MrH » Tue Mar 29, 2016 6:17 pm

This needs to get straightened up, and I know it's strange for a Turkish Cypriot to openly say this - especially on this forum, but it's the truth.

Turkey can Not interfere or even comment on the affairs of the Greek Cypriot lead "Republic of Cyprus" as a "Guarantor" country while she chooses to Recognize the "TRNC" as a breakaway State.

In 1983, Turkey made a unilateral declaration, and continues to celebrate it too on a yearly basis, of recognizing the "TRNC" only and NOT the current Greek Cypriot lead (version of) The Republic of Cyprus.

Without a Comprehensive settlement to the "Cyprus Problem" (if you want to call it that), Turkey has no jurisdiction or rights in the affairs in the south.

Or does She?

Is this what Turkey is holding on to, and why Turkey would far prefer to seek a Federal deal based on Two Constituent States as it will maintain and have a great deal more control than what it would have in a Two Republic (clean break) based solution of only being the guarantor of the "TRNC"?

Are the Greek Cypriots that Miss-Informed about the Cyprus problem to not see this Turkish (Turkiye) tactic. Is, and was this the reason why Turkey backed the Annan Plan in 2004, and is now seeking to reinvent a similar scenario?

I am only trying to Open this subject honestly, where I hope the Greek Cypriots in this forum will find a way of asking the same questions above to their respective Greek Cypriot Minister currently in Government.

What are your thoughts?

One of the things that is clear is that there should be no external power but the EU and then only strictly in accordance with EU law and treaty with any right of intervention in the affairs of the island. There must be no guarantee status for anyone. Not Greece, not Turkey, not the UK. Greece and Turkey in particular forfeited any rights arising out of events in 74.

...indeed, for Turkey to act as a Guarantor, she must secure for Cypriots, as Cypriots, the Cyprus they choose.

Mr. Biden said it well while here on the island, "but one", this is the Problem.

...i have said it before and i will say it again, if Erdogan's intention is to make the lives of Kurds or Alevi better as Turks, in Turkey, dividing Cypriots as "Greeks" (read: not "Turkish"), and "Turks", sets a dangerous precedent. What cannot support itself, after all these years, can thrive as a Constituency within a set of Cypriot Constituencies, as Persons having a form of self-representation where their tax payments may stay closer to their pockets, and to their daily lives. But, only while with this Liberty, and as Cypriots, for Cyprus choose, to defend the Freedom the Republic represents, and each other without distinction or discrimination, their Individual Rights; Erdogan could not easily refuse what could be in Turkey, is Cyprus.

Cyprus does not make a good enemy for Turkey, as we have seen, Cypriots are not easily defeated. Cyprus makes a great ally, on the other hand, that too is being demonstrated; something to think about.

repulsewarrior,
Turkey's issue with it's Kurds and Alevi situation is nothing to do with Cyprus, so please let's stick to Cyprus. Turkey's complete Constitutional and historical setup can not be compared to the history of Cyprus as we all know that it was Britain's intention to install Turkey's Guarantor status in the Bi-Partnership and Zurich agreements in the 1960 Cyprus Republic (original) constitution.

All I am saying here is that Turkey can not act as Guarantor of the entire island if it chooses to recognise the breakaway state of the "TRNC". It just doesn't make sense.

Unless.......

Turkey plans to champion the recognition of the TRNC into a "Federal" state/organ as part of a new United Republic of Cyprus and is hoping on Extending it's Guarantorship to that of the entire island again?

In other words repulsewarrior, either the Greek Cypriots Accept a Federal Republic of Cyprus deal with TWO Federatred/Constiutent states as two founding states under a loose federal central government, or Turkey will use your "OXI" NO vote to official breakaway the North permanently, which tends to fall in line with what your current Greek Cypriot President is warning what could happen.

Me, personally, I believe that Turkey is indirectly pressuring the Greek Cypriots from an EU and UN angel into a Forced "Federal Republic of Cyprus" deal......thus, legalising the "1974 Invasion" as the Greek Cypriots like the put it and dissolving the current "Republic of Cyprus".

I believe that Turkey wants the "Republic of Cyprus" dead and gone and the island split into a Tri-Federal Partnership of British Bases, and TWO Federated Constituent Greek and Turkish Cypriot states with the Guarantor factors tightly in place!

I hope for the Greek Cypriots that I am wrong!

I am personally of the view that as a part of any comprehensive settlement the SBA must go. They are an anachronism.

That's only possible if Turkey becomes a member of the EU and the British bases are removed!

Seeing that none is going to happen, SBA for the Turkish Cypriots are there to remain in any Comprehensive settlement. The Greek Cypriot lead Republic of Cyprus made that decision as soon as they accepted EU entry back in April 2004!

If that's the case, then why is Your Greek Cypriot President negotiating and accepting a Federal agreement based on Two Constituent founding States, and more importantly, why is Famagusta, Varosha, Kyrenia and Morphou in COMPLETE Turkish Cypriot Control?

Win those back and then you can say such a remark, otherwise, the Farting out of the mouth is actually coming from your disillusioned and hopeful end!

It's idiot Greek Cypriots like you why Turkey always wins the day, invaded northern Cyprus in 1974 and Took half and has now tricked your dumb President in negotiating a FEDERAL deal with a "Turkish Cypriot State" as one of its founding entities.....

Come to think of it, Turkey must be having a right laugh!!

Thank you for the confirmation of '74 and yes I agree about the president. I didn't vote for this MF, so not much I can do about him.
