Misunderstanding Russia and Russians

I’ve just ended two weeks visiting cities in four regions of Russia. The questions that were asked over and over were: “Why does America hate us? Why do you demonize us?” Most would add a caveat — “I like American people and I think YOU like us individually but why does the American government hate our government?”

This article is a composite of the comments made and questions asked to our 20-person delegation and to me as an individual. I do not attempt to defend the views but offer them as an insight into the thinking of many of the persons with whom we came into contact in meetings and on the streets.

Its obvious to any right thinking person RH.

Russia is winning the hearts and minds of the world. While the US and its allies dish out conflict and propoganda. It's such as shame.

When one understands that there is no or little free and independent news media in Russia, and where my understanding is that that is what Russians have been spoon feed by the state controlled or influenced media that remains, it is hardly surprising that is what Russians think.

True, they probably don't have access to reputable news outlets like consortiumnews.com.

I watch it some times and I find it almost devoid of attacks on the west or the US President. Remarkably short of videos claiming damage by 'coalition forces' but a lot of on the ground coverage from correspondents in the field. RT also has some good discussion programs that are international with participants in various western countries as well as Moscow and Washington, often quite interesting and from both sides of the fence, not scripted.

I find very similar with Sputnik ..... it does not play the blame game making accusations against the US, But read any of the US sheets and it is a continuous stream of anti-Russian and anti-Putin rhetoric a demonization of Putin ..... most of it totally unsupported and almost always misrepresentative of actual events.
