Was Kuznetsov saying 'HELLO' ?

Postby Robin Hood » Mon Oct 31, 2016 12:46 pm

Just before midday, two fast jets flew over, west to east at around 1200' and travelling fast. Some 15 minutes later two more flew over low and fast ..... and disappeared to the east. It was difficult to see any markings and not being an expert on types all I can say is that all four had twin tails as per F-15's or F-16's ... that type anyway or they could even have been SU-24's or similar. :o

Ten minutes later four more jets, again travelling fast flew over in the same direction. Different type, looked like maybe Tornadoes which could have come from Akrotiri. Take off direction today is 270 as the wind is from the west and fairly strong so they would have had to do a 180 to follow them.

Was Vladimir saying 'Hello Cyprus' or were the first lot Greek/Turkish F-15/16's ? If the second lot were from Akrotiri they were a bit late to catch them. All of these aircraft appeared to cut at an angle across the departure corridor from Larnaca ....... which, at the height they were travelling, was rather naughty! :x

Noisy ..... but it brightened my day ........ and frightened the hell out of the dog!

Our Israeli allies saying HELLO!

F-15 = Israeli

F-16 - could be Israeli or Greek.

The Russians can't even launch their aircraft as far as we know right now.

The Israelis also land at Pafos from time to time and say HELLO to The Cyprus National Guard.

Oh btw, the RoC will have to think carefully about allowing Russian aircraft into its airspace right now. Wouldn't go down too well I would presume. That is one surefire way of pissing off a lot of countries.

Not the most intelligent things to do under current conditions and climate.

Speaking of Israelis... something good from them for a change!

Let's hope this goes through worldwide.

Cyprus doesn't have any fixed wing aeroplanes. Although ...... about half an hour after this incident three large military low loaders with something that looked like a tank but wasn't. crawled up the road toward Platres and Troodos. I don't know what the load was but the bottom looked like a small tank with a square turret but no gun barrel and was covered in tarpaulins. Maybe an AA missile?

You could be right that it is an exercise but the third flight of four jets was not the twin tail variety as per the F-15's it was a conventional layout ..... two wings and a conventional single rudder. All were in grey camouflage.

I don't know what they were but they were not Typhoons and the second lot were not F-15/16 types. I said they COULD have been Russian jets but I doubt it as there paintwork is very different.

The Russians can't even launch their aircraft as far as we know right now.

Well maybe the ones that were practicing take off's and landings off the Shetlands were just the sailors on board throwing paper aeroplanes to fool the west as to there 'superior capability' ! I think you will find they have many more aircraft on board than the Charles de Gaul (French) carrier that was in Limassol docks last week.

The Israelis also land at Pafos from time to time and say HELLO to The Cyprus National Guard.

That must upset them ...... by spoiling their very slow days with some real flying aeroplanes. Unusually, they did manage to get four Russian helicopters in the air at the same time the other day. Must have got the Russians in to fix them.

It's a joint Cypriot/Israeli Exercise known as Onisilos Gideon 2.

The aircraft are Israeli F-15 and F-16 aircraft.

http://in-cyprus.com/cyprus-and-israel- ... -exercise/

Cyprus would be testing their Air Defence and the Israelis will probably test their countermeasures against BUK etc. They do the same with Greek S300s in Crete.

According to Putin/Lavrof the US coalition are 'partners' although I think that is very much tongue in cheek. How long have we been at war with Russia ? I can't see why Cyprus would have a need to close their airspace to any aircraft that asked for clearance and filed the correct flight plan? Think how many Russian tourists and business people that would p*ss off !

It really is fortunate that Putin has more sense in his little finger than all the western leaders combined. What the US and their allies are doing is just spite ..... to try and show Putin their power (Re-fuelling in Ceuta for instance) ? What would happen if Putin decided to play the same stupid game ..... and cut off the gas to Europe ?

The Yanks and the British may play silly games but Putin/Lavrof come over as diplomats and Statesmen who are above childish games.

Oh we are not partners! Make no mistake about that! Pootin is not interested in a partnership, which is risky because Coalition have no interest in turning Syria into a client.

Great to see our Israeli friends in Cypriot airspace as well honing their skills and helping the CNG hone their's. That's a nice partnership.
