im moving to cyprus in the near future and i was thinking of bringing my car,not for me to use but to sell when i get there.i understand car prices are high in cyprus and i was going to sell it before i leave but even thought the journey will cost far more than flying maybe i would still make a profit over selling it in the uk.
suposing i can manage to get the ferries sorted out and all the fees etc, would people be interested in buying a uk registered car in cyprus or if not, how easy is it to register it as a cypriot vehicle.

Unfortunately, it will not be economic, the Import Duty is very high here, plus high Registration Fees, you will need to get it MOTed (even if one day old!), Port Fees, transport costs, possibly having to fit a kph only speedo etc etc!

Money can be made out of this, I have a friend who has imported a few BMWs that he bought cheap at auctions in the UK, even after paying the duties ect, he made money, however you must check on exactly how old the car is and how much duty you will be liable for, also the whole island is stacked high with cars at the moment, so unless it's unusual or cheap you may get stuck with it.

I think cars have to be less than 4 years old when imported, might be different if you're importing it for personal use, but there's a LOT of duty on that car so check before you try.

I'd contact the Cypriot High Commission in London, they used to do an excellent booklet on coming to live in Cyprus, see if you can get one.

I'd guess that car would be close to CY£10k on the forecourt of a garage here.

Registration Fee: £1500

Import Duty: around £15,250 (£5.50 per cc +15% VAT)

European residents coming to Cyprus permanently may bring a car without paying any duty or VAT. However you are not allowed to sell it.

Cabbie, a 91 325 will never reach the 10000 mark, and in Cy people usually prefer 318 line (2 litre engines) due to high fees.

Hi
Is it true that you can bring a car over if you are moving here for good, and not have to pay duty or Vat? I tried the website Hazard put up, but it all Greek to me!!!!!
I would consider bringing my car if this were true.
Can anyone enlighten?
Regards
