GiG, there are laptops and tablets with build in pico projectors, but those projectors are (1) too weak for a large screen, especially when there are lights in the room, and (2) it can not project "behind" because that is where you will be standing... it would then be projecting the image on you! If the places you will do your presentation have projector screens, then most likely they also have projectors, which you can connect to from your laptop. Otherwise you need to bring your own projector and you need to make sure that the projector has the resolution you need and that is also powerful enough to project the size of image you need depending on how much light there is in the room. (Projecting a large image (e.g. 100+ inches) on a normally lit room will need a powerful projector, while a smaller image (e.g. 80 inches) in a darkened room can be achieved with a less powerful projector). Then you should also consider the placement of the projector, and things such as throw distance. (if the screen will be say 2 meters behind you and the projector, then you will need a "short throw" projector to achieve a large screen from such short distance). And there are more things ... like lens shift (or the less desirable keystone correction) that you have to know about. So, while it is not something hard for a person who has some knowledge, I think it is beyond your capabilities to choose and buy a proper projector and then set it up appropriately. You will need somebody to help you (guidance over the forum might not be enough). But again... ask at the venues. If they have rooms with projector screens then it is likely they have projectors also.

Sotos, I think you have identified a key issue which is placement of the projection device, which may not be convenient for the presenter, of if convenient for the presenter, not convenient to the screen and/or audience.

One has also to look at the other requirement, which is to be able to annotate in real time on the screen - that might involve both hardware and software, where the PC/Tablet end might need touch screen technology, and for software, something like "smart" for PC - Smart do incidentally make interactive touch sensitive white boards but they are (a) pricey (b) not very portable - but the software is in my view better than power point for interactive presentations - it really benefits from "touch" as opposed to "mouse".

Thanks Sotos. All good advice. Most places have whiteboards or white walls and so they don't necessarily have projectors but I could use those to project upon.

Anyway, having done some research on it, the fact I wouldn't necessarily be able to darken the room is the biggest drawback. So only the most powerful projectors will do and they are too heavy to be easily portable and to set up quickly.

But there are some neat little things out there: :D

What I need is a means to project what's on my laptop onto the screen/whiteboard/sheet. What kind of projector do I need that will convert what's on my screen? Where does it attach?

Also, I want to annotate in real time - whilst someone is asking a question and I need to clarify by drawing/writing onto the projected image. Annotating beforehand is fine, but not versatile enough (can't anticipate all the questions that I would need to supply extra pointers to).

Are there PC /tablets you can touch or type into to add extra information to as it's being projected?

If it is an electronic white board, then all you need is a USB connection.

Do you know what kind of white board you will be using? Most white boards these days are fully electronic.
