wonder what the Cyprus scenario would have been is e Turkish Cypriots were the Majority people and Greek Cypriots the minority? It could easily have happened if the Ottoman empire back in the day were not so diplomatic to the Greek Cypriots? The Ottomans back in the day gave the Greek Cypriot people too many rights, too much freedom to exercise their education, and particularly religion. If the Ottomans wanted too they could have done what the Greeks did to the Turks of Crete. The Greeks of Cyprus are Lucky, but never see see it. Instead they attempt to undermine and ridicule their so called compatriots Turkish Cypriots at every hurdle. That is why, regardless of recognition, embargoes or isolation, it better than living in a unitary state with the Greek CYPRIOTS whose sole aim is to Hellenify the island and Surpress us Turkish Cypriots to the tiniest minority. I'd rather live without a mobile in Karpaz that to be given a BMW in a luxury apartment in brick-block artifical Limassol under a Greek Cypriot lead hijacked rock any day of the week. The Greek Cypriot leadership are ungrateful, liars and a bunch of dirt lying political mouthed collection of cheating donkeys. They even cheated their own people by forcefully and blatantly stealing monies from their own citizen's bank accounts. What a waste of a nation. Long live the TRNC.

I don't think you really understand what ottoman rule was about. certainly it was started by the treggs but by the end the tergs were a minority in it and actual power was not with the king but the vesirs and they were never terggs they were from the empire. all citizens of the empire were free to practice their beliefs so long as they paid their taxes. and there is nothing wrong with that. i only wish terggy today operated on the same principles as the ottomans.
