Any ideas what this may have been used for? Bought as a bed sheet but I don't think it's practical enough for that.

Looks like a curtain, and the end with the lace is a sort of pelmet, which flaps over whatever is used to hang it?! Apart from the one decorative end it is otherwise a large and plain linen sheet.

Looks like a table-cloth.

No definitely not a tablecloth. The design is only on one end, and the scalloped edge runs only along on this return. The rest of the cloth is completely plain, hence why I thought curtain, but then again I've come across a few of these and they're always round about the same size. It's unlikely that all Cypriots had the same sized windows.

It must have served some purpose!?

It's a TV-cloth then! It used to be popular with older CRT TVs...

The TV cloths were tablecloths (well table toppers to be more precise).

This cloth is over 2 meters long, and around 1.76 meters wide!

I still say curtain. The decorative end looks like it should fold over. It could be a flat sheet, but then it wouldn't be practical to sleep on. :?:

Sorry guys, I know this is the most boring thread in the world but I was wondering if anyone could decipher or make out the meaning of the text on this textile?!

It may well just be letters, but I am sure they stand for something.

They're consonants in the Greek alphabet: M X Γ K Δ

(I tried googling with them but it just comes up with algebraic geometry. Sure to be initials for something.)

The first two pairs are probably the initials of the couple to be wed and the last little triangle (obviously smaller than the rest) may be a simplified version of the symbol of the holy trinity.
