I have read in the press there has been an act of vandalism perpetrated on these footprints' with grafiti and removal of some of them. I uttterly condemn that, as whatever hominid left these prints, they are still important, as are are any similar fossil records.

But none of the authors of the Plos Item you referenced were Greek - two were German, one Bulgarian and one from a Canadian Institute. Even the person who found the mandible in Greece was German....just no Greek input at all, but for the coincidence that this fossil was found in an area that only became anything Greek over some SEVEN MILLION YEARS later.

If I were to agree with you, then both of us would be wrong..the plain fact of the mstter is, and in particular in the Peleponesse and Islands, one has a pretty stable population where the majority of the inhabitants can trace majority ancestral residence back to the neolithic settlement, though if the Kurgan Hypothesis is correct, overlain by a smaller input from an Indo-European Language speaking people who likley arrived about 4000 years back, and where the Greek Language then developed and has been continuously spoken since then. Nearer the northern borders in particular there is a greater proportion of peoples who can trace more of their trace ancestry back to more recent population movements.
