Marcos Baghdatis def. Justin Gimelstob 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, 6-0 in the first round of the Aussie Open. 17th ranked Stepanek is next for Marcos. if he plays well and wins the next 2 matches, He may face Roddick in the 4th.

Rowdy Cyprian tennis hooligans who have only been to soccer games in the past went nuts like last in 2005.

Marcos joined in the chants.

Cypriot Baghdatis stuns seed Stepanek in Australia.

MELBOURNE, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus put on another thrilling display at the Australian Open on Wednesday, downing 17th seed Radek Stepanek 6-4 6-3 3-6 0-6 7-5.

Baghdatis in 2005 became the first Cypriot to reach the fourth round of a grand slam event since tennis turned professional, coming through the qualifying rounds in Melbourne before stunning 13th seed Tommy Robredo in the third round.

The former world number one junior repeated that level of performance against Czech Stepanek, riding his luck with outrageous chip shots and crunching ground strokes to the delight of dozens of noisy fans on show drawn from Melbourne's large Greek and Cypriot communities.

He will face German qualifier Denis Gremelmayr in the third round.

He has a long way to go to be No.1 but still it has been a huge achievement for a Cypriot to get as far as he has.

You have to listen to some of the chants and body movements the fans are coming up with. What a bunch of hooligans LOL.
