Cyprus Mail. Any Journalistic Value?

Everything related to politics in Cyprus and the rest of the world.

It may have stopped for you but it aint for the rest of us. Do you like being abused? Do you enjoy being the victim? The British and the Americans are debased currency. If you really believe that any British or American administration , left or right, will choose Cyprus over Turkey you are a pumpernickel. What ever Cyprus does will never be good enough. So please get off your knees.
As to the Cyprus Mail , most of the news is not from reputable news agencies. Most of the guff appears to come from second rate hacks who would write anything to for a couple of bob. And a couple of bob is all its worth.

mike, not sure of what your first point was all about re: the brits and the yanks. you'll have to clarify.

second, bollocks. the cyp mail, i assure you, takes it's non domestic news from news international and outside press agencies. I know because I read all the press most days, and its exactly the same word for word in some instances of articles.

So rest assured, the news is pretty mainstream.

climb down off that high horse.

You have assured me of nothing. The Cyprus Mail is anything but mainstream.
Its one thing to have a views quite another to insidiously undermind this country. Week after week after week the Cyprus Mail is visciously attacking Greek Cypriots . It refers to the country as a Plantation. Have these journalist no self respect?

Cyprus Mail is a little ridiculous.

http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.ph ... 4&cat_id=1

Not only are Greek Cypriots immature, they have not learned from history and, if given the opportunity, would opt for ENOSIS with Greece in 2006. This is what their objection to the Annan Plan was! It didn't allow them to annex to Greece. Where have we heard this before? I might as well be reading Zaman or Hurriyet. Is this based on a Eurobarometer poll?

They gain points in the English language media for being serious journalists.

kalamara are you sure you have read the article ?

If by some miracle Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots were to announce today that the Greek Cypriots are entirely free to decide for themselves any form of government they wish to have for the whole island, does anyone doubt that the result would be the reverse of the 1950 plebiscite in support of Enosis? Does anyone really think that free to choose for ourselves today we would give up our status as a member of the international community and the EU in order to become a province of Greece like Crete?

The answer is obvious and it should tell us that instead of perpetuating a political climate within Greek Cypriot society based on nationalistic anachronisms, we should turn our talents to nurturing a close and co-operative relationship with the Turkish Cypriots based on shared economic and cultural interests. We need more than anything else to cultivate relations free of the vestiges of ancient antagonisms and atrocities inflicted on each other at the altar of false political gods and ideals.

i mean u have every right to disagree, with what is written but to argue that they opt for enosis is kind of rediculous. enosis , is well forgotten.

lol. I misread it. I missed "reverse" and thought that the next sentence you bolded was a wish of the author.
You are right. This is why I thought the article was ridiculous but it turns out to be my carelessness.

On a Cyprus-related chat site someone recently claimed that the Cyprus Mail is “funded by the Americans”. Presumably he said this because the newspaper is not a government mouthpiece, which for him implies it is part of the Anglo-American conspiracy. The logic is the same as the well known “either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.” The only difference is that in one you have a neat universe of good guys and terrorists, and in the other of good guys and paid agents.

is this bloke talking about me?

It is very obvious that the Cyprus Mail is an anti Cypriot publication. The dunny paper's funding should be audited. This paper is always focused on attacking Cyprus whenever its interests diverge with those of the paper's funders.

What about that mongrel Patroclos - who the F*CK does he think he is?

He has no respect for the opinions of most Cypriots. There are not enough bird cages in the world to line.

Why do they call it "the Cyprus" Mail if they are so anti Cypriot and there is nothing Cypriot about it. Why don't they call it the " 1000 bricks will fall on yor head" Mail.
