I read that the rumours of easy jet flights to the occupied airports were wrong.

The flights to Cyprus via the usual carriers (CA & BA) are way too expensive. Why come to Cyprus when the only things on offer are over priced hotels, a plate of souvla and a beach. You can spend the same amount of money and fly to the Caribbean or the Maldives from Europe. Unfortunately the "arse lesh tourists" are the only ones that want to visit Cyprus. Cyprus needs to offer more to the tourist than tired beaches and museums and historical sites that are closed at 1pm and the weekends. The CTO needs to stop whinging about the decline in tourism and offer more to the tourist with cash in their pocket or we will be stuck with the "drink hungry lout" that just wants to party all night and sleep all day.

Hi Twinkle

I agree about the total incompetence of the CTO (who might be outsourced soon, I understand acquantances have made bids) but certainly in Paphos we get 'normal' tourists and few lager louts. Is the tourism profile different between east and west, I wonder?

These rumours about Easyjet; has anyone actually seen anything in writing to suggest they might fly to the RoC or the Occupied areas? I certainly haven't; Turkey, yes, but Cyprus no.

What exactly do we offer tourists? Our beaches are not great, infact, not even comparable to many cheaper destinations.... the flights to Cyprus are extremely expensive, i flew to Thailand with the same money and the beach there was much more exotic I must say.

CTO has to start thinking about developing sustainable tourism strategies or they will never see a turnaround. They want "quality" tourism then they have to offer a "quality" product. Unfortunately it's not the case as of now.

And pleeasssseee change that ad on CNN, its horrible.

That cr@p advert with the stupid letter box and the reflection is awful. What are they actually advertising? What can you see if you manage to get about 10cm close to the screen. Well, its a walk in the mountains (which incidently are littered with rubbish), a mediocre beach and a dinner at a taverna. I'm sold, I'll book! :?

Then you have a great advert from Malaysia, India, Montenegro and Israel, the latter of which is really unstable yet they still have more to offer than Cyprus. As for Montenegro, the country's tourism is a growing economy after the terrible conflict it has seen.

Come on Cyprus CTO how about a theme park, better sports facilities for the general public, better public transport, specialised tours (can you believe there is a tour to the sunday market on Dhekalia Road??), longer opening hours for museums etc and better, cleaner beaches with better equipped facilities rather than a taverna plonked in the background :x
