The Organization of Islamic Conference's (OIC) steps to remove the political and economic isolations on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) continue.

Following the Foreign Ministers, the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (PUOIC) acceptation of TRNC, currently at observed as "The Cyprus Muslim Turkish Society," the republic will take part in the union with the title of "Cyprus Turkish State".

The 4th PUOIC Conference that started at the Conrad Hotel Wednesday ended with the final manifesto issued yesterday. Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Bulent Arinc, in the statement he made after the closing, announced that a draft to name Cyprus termed as "Cyprus Muslim Turkish Society" in PUOIC as the "Cyprus Turkish State" has been unanimously passed.

Upon being asked "What does the definition of Cyprus Turkish state mean in terms of recognizing of TRNC as a state?" Arinc answered: "It is just a decision taken by the PUOIC. This term is mentioned in the plan of the UN Secretary General as well. This does not mean these countries will "recognize the Cyprus state" from now on. We are not at that point. The decision we have taken does not mean this."

OIC Foreign Ministers had taken the same decision at the 31st Term Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Istanbul in 2004.

Diplomatic sources say the decision does not mean a recognition or acknowledgement, but it will make it easier for TRNC to establish dual relationships.

Arinc, mentioning the issue of developing economic cooperation with the TRNC is also in the final manifesto, said the declaration calls the international community to take concrete steps in removing the isolations on Cyprus.

The document read "PUOIC welcomes the Action Plan announced by Turkey in 24 January 2006."

SOURcy

Soon, recognition will be on the table, and with support of OIC, officially UN definitions wont be much important....

The following is from 2004:

Quote:
The proposed meeting between EU foreign ministers and the Organisation of Islamic Conference which was due to take place on 4 and 5 October in Istanbul, has been cancelled. The cancellation was announced in a statement issued by the Turkish foreign ministry, which blamed the Dutch Presidency for this development, which disagreed with the Turkish Cypriot pseudo-state being invited to observe proceedings with the title "Turkish Cypriot state". The Dutch Presidency expressed its concerns regarding this name and called on EU member states not to participate in the summit.

This issue has caused a rift between the EU and Turkey which insists that the Turkish-Cypriots observe the meeting as the "Turkish Cypriot state". Turkey even rejected a Dutch proposal for observers to participate without titles in the meeting place.
According to an ANA dispatch from Nicosia meanwhile, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said that the Cypriot government is not responsible for the cancellation of the meeting. He stated that Turkey's insistence on inviting the occupation regime in northern Cyprus to the meeting under the name "Turkish Cypriot state" was not acceptable to the European Union. Papadopoulos added that the Cypriot government's efforts in pushing this matter in New York and Brussels had paid off.

Turkey's decision to cancel the European Union - Organization of Islamic Conference Joint Forum, proves the real Turkish intentions to upgrade the status of the Turkish Cypriot pseudostate in Cyprus' Turkish occupied north, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides told CNA.

He also noted that the government of the Republic of Cyprus, under the guidance of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos had taken the necessary measures on time and had outlined clearly its positions on this issue before the EU.

The spokesman stressed that Turkey's non - compliance with the EU's recommendations ''constitutes a provocation towards the EU itself and the international community''.

''The government of the Republic of Cyprus, under the guidance of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, had taken measures on time, had outlined clearly our positions before the EU, and as a result any Turkish traps and diplomatic maneuvers were prevented'', he said.

Chrysostomides added that ''the cancellation of the EU - OIC Joint Forum by Turkey proves the real Turkish intentions, that by organizing the Forum Turkey simply aimed at upgrading the pseudostate''.

He also noted EU's devotion to the principles on which the Union was founded, as well as the solidarity among its member states.

''It is also proven that the EU has rules and principles on which it bases its policy, among which are the respect of the international law as well as the solidarity among its member states'', Chrysostomides told CNA.

So there is nothing new akiner. The OIC can not upgrade the pseudo puppet state of Turkey to anything more than what it really is: a pseudo puppet state.
