dixi, what exactly means "spiritual"? Somebody that believes in more than just science?

What I mean by spirituality is having a sense of meaning and purpose and a recognition that there may be a higher being without having to commit myself to a particular religious faith.

Christianity (and other religions) were good in theory and miserably failed in practice (something like communism).

It depends how you assess failure and success.

Let me illustrate with the life of Elvis Priesley. From the world's point of a view he was a very successful musician. Crowned by his fans as the King of Rock'n'Roll, many would die to live the life he lived even for a moment.

Six weeks before he died, Elvis Presley was asked by a reporter, “Elvis, when you started playing music, you said you wanted three things in life: You wanted to be rich, you wanted to be famous, and you wanted to be happy. Are you happy, Elvis?”. Elvis replied, “No. I’m as lonely as hell.” He said that a long time ago he had rejected his only true friend, Jesus. A preacher who had prayed for him said, "If he were offered his salvation tonight, he would probably say, 'No thanks, I'm on the top.'" Eventually he died of drug overdose.

So you see, it was the same life seen from two different perspectives, one as a success and another as a failure.

Christianity wasn't meant to change the world but the inner life of a person. Jesus said that he 'didn't come to bring peace to the earth'. He said 'a man's enemies will be the members of his own household', let alone world peace. In fact he prophesied that in the end sin will abound to such a degree that he would have to destory the earth as he did in the days of Noah.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Christianity is misrepresented especially in the west with all its denominations. This is because many who profess to be Christians are not. It doesn't matter to me if they have some great position in the church. Jesus spoke of the Pharisees (Jewish religious leaders) in a very harsh manner warning the rest of their hypocrisy.

Yes, it is suprising how many non-believers there are here, maybe there wil be fewer if God decides to strike them down over Easter Smile

Is being non-religious the same as being a non-believer?

I don't think so but there many faiths believe that theirs is the ultimate or only faith and anyone else is a non-believer (infidel) who should be struck down if they don't convert.

Or does being non-religious mean that one is a non-believer?

Again, I don't think so. Is there a true faith? If there is then I don't know what it is. If there is a God that created all, then I can't make myself believe that she is up there only accepting those who belong to a particular religion. I have to believe that God's decision is based on the type of person you are and how you have conducted yourself in life.

There's my piece/peace. I have to go pray now.

Well I used to go to church much when I was younger. Dont go to to many places since I was diagnosed with agoraphobia. It didnt used to be so bad but it is getting worse. So I figure praying at home is as good. The fact that you believe and pray and have faith should be important not how many time you go to church.

I am also sufferin with allergy this period of time when the summer approaches. I have been to a big supermarket to shop and as the place was fully airconditioned I realised that flu symptoms like running noise and headache, wet eyes etc started to appear! As a result I came back home and I have just had my chinese dinner.

I have never been christened cos parents thought they would be nice and give me the choice when im older and i have a year to decide so i can have my proper greek wedding in a church eeeekkkk! What one eh?
