Cyprus Soccer

Postby Fisherman2006 » Mon Jul 10, 2006 4:20 am

Hey, Can some one tell me a little more about the Cypriot soccer team(s). I know a lot about soccer teams and World cup but when it comes to the Euro and national teams all I know is that Greece pulled out an unsuspected victory :D . Anyway, can some one tell me about the Cyprus soccer, is it at all international, wat are their acheivements, expectations, how far have they gotten? Thanks !

Our national team has never qualified to the Euro or World Cup. We can usually win the smaller teams like Malta, Luxembourg, Faroe, Andorra and sometimes win teams like Ireland, Israel etc. Once a while we can make a surprise draw or win over a big team but thats not happening often. Our clubs do better and some teams come quite close to Champions league top 16 but never managed so far. We do better in basketball ;)

the most popular team in cyprus is OMONOIA NICOSIA.

Many Cypriot footballers playing for Greek team like Charalabides Alwneftis.
our national team now is stronger than ever .
we hope to qualify for the euro but this is very difficult
