WORKS! Wireless connection on B-Focus 352+ (cyta)

Postby windsurflove » Wed Jul 12, 2006 2:55 pm

I managed to enable the wireless access point on the B-Focus 352+. If you follow these instructions you will be able to connect wirelessly one (only ONE) computer. The reason is that the B-Focus 352+ will still not work as a router. However, I think this is better than nothing. So, here goes:

1) Connect to your B-Focus 352+ by wire
2) Change your Local Area Connection IP to 192.168.1.2, Subnet Mask 255,255,255,0
3) Navigate your web-browser to 192.168.1.1. This should bring you the log in screen for the administration panel for the B-Focus 352+.
4) Login using username:Admin, password:Admin (Admin starting with capital A)
5) Press SETUP on the horizontal menu and LAN configuration on the vertical menu.
6) Transfer WLAN from LAN Group 2 to LAN Group 2. This is how to do it:
Under LAN Group 2 higlight WLAN and click remove
Then under Interfaces Higling WLAN and click add under LAN Group 1
7) Click Apply
8) Goto WIRELESS on the horizontal menu, SETUP on the vertical menu
9) Click ENABLE A/P
10) Click Apply
11) Follow the Restart Access Point Link
12) Click the Restart Access Point button
13) Then click the Save All Changes button
14) The B-Focus 352+ should now be transmitting and the WIRELESS light should be on.
15) Disconnect the network cable, disable you Local Area Connection and enable your Wireless Network connection.
16) Connect wirelessly on BFOCUS

THAT'S IT!
If you are lucky all should work fine.

If you have problems:
If you get 'Limited Connectivity'. The DHCP at cyta is not giving you a valid IP. This is what you do:
1) Call 80000197. Choose the i-choice option.
2) Tell the support person: "Release my IP"
3) They will tell you to switch off the ADSL modem and wait on the line for 5 minutes. Do it and wait.
4) When they tell you it is released, switch it back on
5) Connect your wireless card to BFOCUS again (don't tell them you are connecting wirelessly!).
6) They will then tell you to put 192.168.5.1 in you browser (www.i-choice.com.cy). Log in using your phone number for username and password
7) Netrunner login should then pop-up (if it doesn't ctrl-click on cytanet icon and make sure your pop-up blocker is disabled). Login with your username and password

More on the Focus 352+

Postby windsurflove » Wed Jul 12, 2006 2:57 pm

Please let me know if the solution to the wireless problem I posted works for you.

I believe once you get wireless connectivity you can figure out how to also enable the router rather than connecting straight to cyta's network, you are going through the router, so you can connect more than one computers.

Unfortunately I have no time to keep experimenting, plus I'm only using one computer so I'm fine with my not completely perfect solution, but I would like to help in any way I can if someone figure out the router thing.

Thanks for that windsurflove! I have a router with wireless on it already so I will not try your hack. If you manage to make the router to work also it will be even better ;)

raymanuva:
It does work! The most important point is to move WLAN from LAN Group2 to LAN Group1. If you don't do this, the Access Point will light up, but there will be no connection. I don't know what you mean by 'flashing'. If you are talking about flashing the firmware and you have the same router model, I'd be very much interested to know where you found it.

Snad:
It's the new ADSL modem that Cyta installs when you order i-choice (broadband internet). It has a 4 ports for connecting computers by wire and an antenna for wireless connections BUT THESE FEATURES ARE DISABLED :(. The reasoning, according to the engineer who came and installed it, is that if these features were enabled, the old users with previous versions of ADSL modems would call to have their's upgraded, and cyta's support people would be swamped with work. To me it's like giving you a fast car with 5 speeds and disabling gear 4 and 5. So I managed to enable the wireless access point (meaning I don't need a wire to connect my laptop to it), but not the router (meaning only 1 computer/laptop can connect at a time)

Postby windsurflove » Sat Jul 15, 2006 1:31 pm

For those wanting to create a network without additional routers and access points read this by KYRIAKOSMETAL who made a user manual that ROCKS!

It does work, i posted this ages ago. you may also have to do an ipconfig to see your ip address and then assign it to your network card as opposed to dhcp.

should you do anything wrong, just press the reset button on the back of the router and it will reset everything back to factory settings
