 he, as an artist does!!!
it is amazing that this is not self-evident!!
it is very important!!

he, as an artist has pictured that scene in a church for his own reasons. we might understand it or not, but nevertheless it is for him important. perhaps he was to communicate a message. perhaps we understand that message as he wanted us to do, or we get a different feeling out of it. but, this is the essence or art. there was a whole shock being created when an artist showed in greece, a painting with a cross and a penis next to each other. we have the right not to watch it, or to say this picture is not of my taste. but saying, why didnt you change the panis with a sasauge - who cares ? it is intervening in what an artist is suppossed to do. then we are not talking about art, but about instructed painting (in this case). he got an inspiration to present it like that, and that it is how he will present it. if we intervene in his inspiration, then we are in practise killing art.

when i was still in cyprus i watched a couple of times the show "mihani tou hronou", how the cencoring committee was working during the junta times. the similarity is at times striking

i did not see any american films having scenes deleted in any cyprus tv, just because they showed a murder taking place in a church. if the (not art but) "moral cinema committee" , considered such scenes as insulting the "cypriot morals" (sic), they should protect the cypriot public from all similar scenes. shouldnt they ?

The government (Tax payers) give 120.000 pounds to somebody in order to do something beneficial for our country, and then this somebody along with all the others that would like to be in the government but they are not (and they will never be), accuse our government for fascism, censorship etc, simply because the government gave them "just" 120.000 and not 135.000 !! Ridiculous.

these people, have brought our country to the venice bienalle - a great honour for our country-, but some barbarians fail to appreciate that.

this is not "beneficial" for them. because they can do it anytime . like they did it in the year before and the year before that

and even in the case, that chrysanthou broke the contract, they could find another way to punish him , and not punish our country by preventing a cypriot film being shown in a festival of such quality.

their inability (not to mention stupidity) to consider the costs their decision could have brought, is simply amazing.

.

interesting part of the interview that i posted above is the following.
the last film of panikos hrysanthou "our wall" , was not shown by any channel in cyprus. it was shown by the national greek channel - ERT (shame on them!!) , ZDF and ARTE.

ARTE for those who are interested is a franco-german billingual channel, and is admitetly one of the most quality channels in germany.

5 cypriot (not counting the local ones) tv channels and not a single one had time to present a 2 hours film of a cypriot artist...
coincidence...

So now you will also blame the government because TV channels didn't show a movie? The government has not stopped any channel from showing any such movie. What movies are shown depends on the channels. Unless of course you advocate that the government should force the channels to show specific movies.

Whatever cypezokyli. you are obviously blinded by anti-government fanaticism and you can not even realize how obscure and fascist your arguments are.

We live in a free democratic country. The directory should say thanks to the tax payers for their 120.000 instead of complaining that he wants 15.000 more, and you should accept that in democratic countries the media are left alone to decide what they will show and what they will not.

you can visit the official site of the film here :
http://www.akamas-film.com/index.shtml

many interesting articles (especially in greek but also in english ...and turkish which i cannot read) , also from newspapers of greece : kathimerini, eleftherotpyia, ta nea and avgi.

two more things that i learned through the articles :
- other co-financer of the film was the national greek tv...which apparently posed no objections what so ever...wonder why
- another cypriot film went to venice took part in the venice festival, with ioakim milonas. the movie is short lenght (?) movie and it is called "farmakon"...
