Cyprus - Germany

Postby Sotos » Mon Nov 13, 2006 2:54 am

Germany coach Joachim Loew warned Sunday that Cyprus will be the toughest test yet for his side in the Euro 2008 qualification campaign.

The Germans meet their Group D opponents on Wednesday in Nicosia after three wins out of three in the qualification campaign, against Ireland, San Marino and Slovakia.

But Loew told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa in Frankfurt: "This is the best opponent so far in the qualification. They are at present better than Ireland or Slovakia.

So how many goals we will score against the Germans. I think about 6 will be enough

Sotos, you underestimate the Cyprus team.....didn't you read what the article said? Cyprus is officially better than Ireland, San Marino, and Slovakia...going on that alone, I'd say ten goals at the very least!!

Okay, joking aside...... I wish the Cyprus team the very best of luck!! :D

Go Cyprus!! :D

What the German coach said was a profound over-exaggeration, mainly to protect his players in not underestimating Cyprus. The truth is if we lose with only two goals difference, it should be considered a victory by us, and this I believe is the only realistic objective the Cypriot team should set up, right from the start. The Cypriot defense is pathetic, and if we attempt to expand forward early in the game so that we score against Germany, I see us losing badly with many goals difference. There are many teams we can beat in Cyprus, but Germany isn’t one of them.

The Germans are not just any team that we can manage to shock and demoralize with one or two goals (like Ireland for example) and then renter them useless for the rest of the game. They are machines, both physically and mentally, and are not the players that can be intimidated. They keep the same tempo from the first minute to the very last one, without thinking back on the score, not even for a second.

This is interesting:

in the four previous encounters between the countries, Germany have won them all, scoring 24 times without conceding a goal.

Hello sports-people in cyprus! !!
Don't worry for the game on this evening, I think cyprus has good chances to win against germany this time.
Because -and at first- they play at home and have lots of enthusiastic fans in the stadium!
At second, the german team will play only with its second-best players, many of the 'main-players'
will not play cause of sickness.
And finally, the best german keeper and my favourite footballer, Jens Lehmann, is also not playing...
Anyway, I hope for a fair play and wish KALH TYXH for cyprus! :-)

Thanks Fini. 1-1 would be great and losing with 1-2 goals difference and a good appearance will not be bad. Anything else is too optimistic for Cyprus. Some of our good players will not play either :( The game will be tonight at 21:00 and it will be live from Mivision. If you don't have Mivision but you have satellite like Nova or similar then there is a German free to air channel called ZDF that will show the game :)
