Aparently Turkish Cypriots prefer to be a minority in North and be ruled by dictadors like Denctash, rather than have their own federal state if that means they will be a minority in a democratic central government.

They have the chance to prosper in a united and democratic Europe, and they are going to through this in the trush just because they can not accept that in Cyprus they are a minority. Dectash propaganda that "TC are not a minority" worked very well for him, and he is going to get what he wants.

According to Annan Plan solution TC's won't be minority. We'll have equal rights with Greek Cypriots.
On the other hand we are not electing Denktas u know! Turkey is bringing people here and making these uneducated people vote for Denktas and winning the elections! Settelers are more then TCs now!

Wait a second. I never said that Turkish Cypriots should not have equal rights with Greek Cypriots!!! What I said is that the central goverment should be elected by the all Cypriots, one person one vote, otherwise it is not democratic.

BBC NEWS IN PICTURES..What GCs saying..

Rushed through

BBC News Online gauges the views of Greek Cypriots after the result of the referendum becomes clear.

Andreas Tembriotis, 40, Cyprus Airways pilot:

They gave all the concessions to the Turkish side. The plan was rushed through at the last minute. I feel sad about the result but I voted No.

I hope there will be a solution eventually.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blackmail

Savvas Chrysanthou, 54, businessman:

In the last few days far too many people have tried to blackmail the people into saying Yes to an unjust and unworkable plan.

We know for a fact that we can live peacefully with the Turkish Cypriots but we don’t want to live in a Cyprus with the Turkish settlers and the Turkish army.

---------------------------------------------------

Not closing the door

Mihalis Pourgouris, 37, computer consultant:

I feel relief. We want all Cyprus to live together in peace but not under the Annan plan.

I can understand the Turkish Cypriot vote. This was the first plan for 30 years that cared about them.

They have to understand that we are not closing the door on them.

Analysis: Turkey's Cyprus gamble

By Jonny Dymond
BBC Istanbul correspondent

Senior Turkish politicians have expressed disappointment at the result of the reunification referendum on the island of Cyprus, which was defeated by a large margin in the Greek Cypriot south.

Turkey is alone in recognising the Turkish Cypriot north

Turkish Cypriots, whose claim to statehood is recognised only by Turkey, voted in favour of reunification.

For many years the division of Cyprus has been a major obstacle on Turkey's path to European Union membership, so where does this vote leave Turkey's EU aspirations?

Turkey's governing Justice and Development (AK) Party took a big risk in pressing for a compromise deal in Cyprus.

Grudging acceptance

Many in the powerful military and bureaucracy wanted no part of a resolution which involved yielding territory to Greek Cyprus.

Turkey's military issued a grudging public acceptance of the UN's involvement but then, through various channels, allowed it to be known that it thought the government had yielded too much.

But it was clear that something had to give over Cyprus if Turkey was to remove a major obstacle on its path to EU membership.

The defeat of the referendum and the end of the reunification plan might make it seem as if the Turkish government's efforts have been in vain, but in fact it looks like the very opposite is true.

Gamble

There is widespread international acknowledgement of the change in the Turkish government's approach and the delicacy of its domestic political position.

"We did everything we could," said Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.

The diplomatic community in Turkey knows that is pretty much the case and the clear-cut majority the reunification plan gained in the Turkish Cypriot north is testament to Turkey's changed attitude.

The result means no EU benefits for Turkish Cypriots

Serious problems remain though. Turkey is still the only country in the world that recognises the self-styled Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Forty thousand Turkish troops are stationed there and they will be technically in occupation of EU territory when the south of the island joins the EU on 1 May.

But it seems clear that the international attitude towards Northern Cyprus will change.

The Turkish government's gamble appears to have paid off - and opponents of its membership of the EU will now have to find objections other than Turkey's relationship with the Cypriot north.

We'll live under what? Under where Greek Cypriots decides everthing and where we have only minority rights?

Sorry but i say a BIG NO TO THIS !There is no-one to accept this! If one day this type of solution is created i'm sure Tcs will say %99.9 NO!

We know for a fact that we can live peacefully with the Turkish Cypriots but we don’t want to live in a Cyprus with the Turkish settlers and the Turkish army.

May be in the further plans Turkish army can leave the island completely! But forget about drowing all settelers back ! They are living here for 30-20 years ! They have human rights ! They are innocent ! They are like a real cypriot! But of course some will go back!

You can't live under Turkish army! English army is ok? Greece's soldiers are ok?
