I find the jokes about Saddam disturbing. OK, some people in Iraq can be happy about it and I understand them. Some other people are not happy about it. But what is the need to make jokes about somebody that was killed in this way?

Britain has a military history going back hundreds of years that far super seeds any other nation in the entire world including the United Statues, and during WW1 and WW2 it has led by example...............remember The Battle of Britain won by the brave pilots of the Royal Air Force (some pilots only had 2 weeks in which to learn to fly before the battle (i.e take off and landing)The brave pilots and gunner crews of the Lancaster Bombers, Field Marshal Montgomery and his famous Desert Rats and not forgeting the British navy with its Destroyers, subs and Mine Sweepers of which my grandfather served on as No 1 gunner on the tom tom guns, and last but not least the famous D-Day Landings which saw any sea craft that floated heading for France.
Yes America joined WW2 at the last minute, but not through choice as the japs made there minds up for them, thereafter they did help to stengthen the allied forces, but after all the hard work had already been done, with the loss of many thousands of brave men, women from the British allied forces who gave their lives for freedom,by air ,land and sea.

And what do you find insulting about your fathers memory my dear , the fact that the USA contributed so much towards defeating Nazism ? Get real girl we have a lot to thank America for. Can I also say don't let the name Miltiades cloud your judgement there is a lot of English blood in my family too and family members who perished fighting for freedom and England.

Miltiades

You seem to be somewhat of a fan of the Americans! That is all well and good, but for you to say, that "Britain would have crumbled" without the help of USA is to me a far reaching statement. This is an insult to my father's memory, IMHO!
I have no racial prejudice about your name and I am sorry for the loss of your loved ones, who also fought, but no one will ever convince me that USA won the war, so I suggest you get real.

Oh BTW please do not patronise me with your "my dear", I am not a silly little girl, and this,IMHO, only makes your sweeping statement more ridiculous.

ps My father fought for Britain, not England.

Why on earth should a statement supporting a view that the entire population of the USA hold be an insult to your fathers memory. Have you been to the States and do you know that the Americans are of the opinion that they won the war. My opinion is not prejudiced since it is based on the undeniable fact that had American not joined the war , not at the last minute but 3 years before the war ended Britain would have collapsed .There are aslo 300million Russians who firmly believe that THEY won the war. This does not undermine the brave British soldiers and pilots , including my father in law , who perished fighting the Nazis. The original discussion was in support of American efforts during the second world war , during it and after the war with the introduction of the Marshall plan.
You obviously dissagree and you do so out of you anti American position , if you read some of my posts you will see that Im 100% commited supporter of the West , that includes the USA .

Americans also have a view that says they are the smartest in the world....I live here and find it completely hard to believe. Just because the whole American population believes something, it doesn't make it so. True the Americans contributed a whole lot during WW2 and we should give them their props; they should not however get their props and everyone else's just because they view themselves as saviors. I love this country almost as much as my own and I know Miltiades will now call me anti-American just because I disagree with him. But we need to be realistic and stop saying things just for the sake of saying something. Unfortunately, heart being in the right place or not, the US has made a lot of mistakes on a lot of occasions. Lets not forget those as well as the good they have contributed.

now that is an isult to me, pitsilos. MOST americans did not vote for bush. the mafority of people here voted for someone else, both times.

as for you Snad--you don't have to believe that the USA was a major cause of ending and "winning" the war, i just have 2 words for you: hiroshima and nagasaki.
