HI I'M NEW TO THIS FORUM

Postby smileyRose » Sat Jan 13, 2007 5:50 pm

Hi, I'm new to this forum. The reason I've decided to join the forum is because I used to reside in Cyprus a number of years ago because my father was in the RAF. I used to attend both Campbell Primary School and St Johns.

I was just wondering if both schools are still standing?

Although I don't reside on the Island any more, a member of my family owns an apartment in Cyprus still and although I haven't managed to visit in recent years, I hope to visit in the not too distant future as I still have some friends who reside over there who I'd like to visit some time.

So howdy folk. :)

Hello I just joined this forum as well. Where do you live now then, somewhere in the UK is it? Whereabouts is the apartment in Cyprus you referred to?

Hey Hi :)

I live in the UK and the apartment is near Paphos.

So, whereabouts do you reside? :)

Hehe :)

Oh I know Guildford, I visited the area a number of years ago, a beautiful part of the country. :) Yes I seem to remember my parents speaking of Kamares village. Of course when I resided in Cyprus I lived in Limassol and I have fond memories of the Island. :)

Well it certainly ain't so beautiful today round here, cloudy, rain, grim and dark already. Anyway I've lived here too long methinks: am fed up with guildford now, it's far too overpriced and there are more dumpy bits than you might think.

Hi,
You asked about Campbell Primary School and St Johns and asked if both schools are still standing? Well I have never heard of Campbell Primary School but St Johns is certainly going strong.
You mentioned that when you lived in Cyprus with your family you lived in Limassol. I take it that it must have been pre 1974 because, as we all know, things changed quite dramatically after July 1974 due to a few visitors (or was it the stupidity of a few Christian Greek Cypriot hotheads). Anyway all of the facilities previously enjoyed by the Brits in Limassol dissapeared, which included the NAAFI, Island Club, Dental Centre, Medical Centre and Schools etc.
The retained site of Berengaria to the north of Limassol was kept open and occupied post coup/invasion by married unoccumpanied servicemen. I was one of those servicemen and finally left the island in May 75.
I completed my last tour of duty in Cyprus 1998 - 2001 and both my children attended St Johns a superb school where the pupil to teacher ratio must be the envy of most schools anywhere.
I have now finished my service career (actually just finished work and hung up my uniform with retirement in April), it will be off to our house in Erimi then and I simply cannot wait.
