Ah now your talking -- why don't you say it --- Haringey aka "little Cyprus in London" lovely place full of Turkish / Turkish Cypriots /Kosovans / Bosnians / Somali / Moroccans in fact every nationality except Greeks / Greek Cypriots because they have all sold up and moved out to Palmers Green and Southgate due to the often brutal violence that spills out on to the street on a regular basis.
Nice place "Little Cyprus in London" |
Although Haringey doesnt have the strong Cypriot population as it did say 20 years ago - there are still quite a few living there. Its just people are fooled because they drive down Green Lanes and see mostly Turkish and Kurdish shops. Most of those shops still belong to Cypriots and are being rented out. Also like I said, many Cypriots still live in Haringey but just dont run the shops anymore. The next generation dont want to be green grocers or dry cleaners or fish shop owners like their parents. |

Also I dont know if you have noticed - but there is not even a fraction of the late night businesses open on Green Lanes Haringey as there was a couple of years ago. Think the council is coming down on that area big time. Dont be surprised if Green Lanes turns into another Shoreditch, Hoxton, Stoke Newington, Brixton, etc - basically inner city areas that are turned around and made upmarket. You've already got the big shopping complex in Haringey and that wasnt put there for nothing.

Great to see the first ever marriage brought together on the web.
The LGR site has been going for 12 months - so maybe in 2008, we will witness the 'Big, fat LGR wedding'.
