Two things the RoC can do now ...

Postby humanist » Fri Mar 02, 2007 3:50 am

1/ Re-house greek speaking refugees currently occupying turkish property for residential/ commercial use. And make them available to rightful owners, so long as people are not double dipping. ( I know some people will kick up a fuss, but sometimes we need to sacrifice personal comforts for human good)

2/ Change the national anthem to be more inclussive of all its citizens.

Come on RoC lets live by example, and treat others as we would like to be treated.

Humanist,
You are nice man but this idea is no good because no TC will come to stay here and i dont think any GC will come to stay in North.
+ where is Larnaca Airport the whole land is owned by TC and many schools roads are build on TC properties. Of course they can offer money and they want to buy TC properties in south.
BUT TRNC as well can pay the GCs as well for their houses if they come to apply . but papadopulus said it is an offence to go apply. This problem can never solved between induvidials . it has to solved between 2 goverments. I tell you what will happen in future ( i dont support) . All jews bought the karpaz already and one day USA will come and have a bace there and TRNC will be recognised if this is carryon like this. Thats why my opinion Annan plan wasnt good for TCs but it was the way for solition. Trust me everybody want Cyprus and they dont care what TCs or GCs will say. THis island always been raped thousnds years. Do you think USA have leagle right to be in Iraq . No but nobady can say anything. Even we dont like it they are ruling the world. Beware everybody and come we make some solition. They will take Turkey in EU and EU will collapse .This is What USA wants. Because they can not accept competitors.

Thanks, however I would disagree with your coment, I think if the options was given mant cypriots currently in the north will move to the south, the knowing of ding the right thing, the security of living on your own land that one will ever dispute, is a sense of peace of mind.

I thik you will be surprised that quite a number of cypriots ousted from their properties in 1974 will return. Give it a go and see for your self. However, a huge number will not return because they have established lives elsewhere, such as in the south, britain, usa, australia.

The larnaca airport is an exception as probably is the ercan airport. the Roc needed an aiport to function, to this end they built where it was built. larnaca will be used by all cypriots, regardless of whose the land belogs to i think the State has the right to buy land for public works, the roads will be used by all cypriots, i am sure refugee land in the north has been used to build public works and roads etc,

mate we don't care, how will outside forces care. if we cared we would join and unite as one people and then there will be not problem. so long as we separate ourselves there will never be a solution that is for sure.

I think cyprus is different people can say no. people can be brave and say I am returning to my land in paphos, larnaca, lemesson because it is safe. cypriots ousted from their properties in the north and now living in the south unfortunately do not have that luxury. If you stop and look at it cypriots living in the north hold the key to their future and that of cyprus.

just to mention RoC already accepting to give the houses back to the TCs (require 6 month stay in south or pr74 moved to abroad)
But the biggest problem TCs they are selling them to GCs straightaway because of economical situtation. They are sold already many of them. They will never come to stay . That was the Makarious plan to make economical poor that GCs can buy their lands. its normal we think different.

Well if that was Makarios' plan I don't know. But he is dead now and it is an opportunity for us to try something new, take a risk. I believe from your posts that you are a business man???? perhaps and if so in your business you must have taken risks. It is a big shame if TSC's are selling off their land in the south. Shame for Cyprus culture. But I respect that they feel they need to. ,Perhaps the RoC can give tax benefits to those who wish to stay, to assist them to catch up to the rest of the population. I also believ that Britain ought to pay up, as agreed by having the bases @ Akrotiri and Dekelia, that way the RoC will be able to financially support TSC's. I also mentioned in another post that the anthem needs to change and that the RoC need to encourage thrugh a 7 year tax benefits for TSC's wishing to do business in the south. That would be taking the unifcation and equality for all Cypriots to the next level where people can begin the interact and connect and become able to join the EU sphere.

Humanist, if a TC wants his land back and it has been built on - like Larnaca - or razed to the ground like some villages were, where do these TCs actually go? There was an article just a couple of weeks ago and there is nothing left of a former TC village but a few ruins so how can these people go back - to what? Where do they live? The GCs in a similar situation with land and property in the North can apply for compensation can the TCs do the same, or do they have to live in the South for 6mths to apply?

well the same rules apply, if there are cypriots who currently live in the north who wish to return to their properties in the south, I believe that the roc need to vacate their homes and allow them to return, if there is dwelling then it can be knocked down, or the owner can purchase it at the cost of being built. The government re-imburses the person built the dwelling and also accommodates them. if a property has been built for a public use service ie police station airports, hospitals roads then a compensation is due.

the difference between the north and south one is under illegal occupation the other is a legally recognised coutry.

You sure? With an annual income of around 800m the "TRNC" would go bankrupt overnight. Technically, Gikkos (church land) pretty much owns the "TRNC"! :)

We give them back theirs when they give us back what they stole from us! They are the ones that wanted partition isn't it? So why should we be victims twice?

Sotos, we have to give something back we cannot accept that we can have it all our way. Man, if some of us have to move out of a house a second time until a pernanent solution is found, well we are doing it for Cyprus. I think we need to live by example, and practice what we preech.

I read today that Oli Rhen is congratulating Talat and is asking the RoC to look at Talat as an example, Big fat example of a man he is, allowing the sale of refugee land yet we have to look at him as an example. What a whole lot of crap, from the EU. They are squising us to the kilt.

Besides that we need to give back houses and Greek Speaking Cypriots living in those houses need to be re-housed. In appreciation of the pain and heart ache that would cause the RoC governement need to take immediate action to re-house those families and in most cases it would be older people as their children have probably moved on, into their own homes. They need to be re-housed permanenly in the south in house specially built for people in these situations and on available land with deeds given to them to compensate for the second move. If a solution is found people can then choose their home in the north or stay where they are or in tose very few circumstances then they can keep both.

If the RoC is really looking at unification I think it needs to make it more attractive for cypriots currently living in the north to move to the south, then and only then would the RoC be able to argue that there is no need for the trnc to exists because it is not providing haven for the turkish speaking cypriots but for mainland turks, who are also human beings and who have a right to life but are illegal immigrants as far as the legal definition goes.

I do believe the issue goes beyond financial issues and it is about respect if we can show that we are willing to give back property and people have been given opportunities to gain employment in Lemessos or Paphos for example and already have an ancetral home there why would they choose to sell and go and live in the impoverished trnc. They will stay there, then perhaps they will see that not all cypriots are -----. That is how we can begin to forge trust and build meaning ful relationships. Unless the RoC wants partition and it is not saying so. I belkieve that every tsc property in the south ought to be made available to its rightful owner in the following year so long as those people are not occupying refugee property, in the north, it is then up to that family to do what they wish for with their land. That is excactly what we are asking for. To this end we need to act by example and let the internatioannl coomunity be the jusdge of right action. Yes there will be thieves who will double dip and that is not right either but that is the reality of humanity there are thieves and they will try to get as much as they can, but if the EU can comend Talat for opening Ledra street passing, imagine whatr a commendation Papadopoulos would get if he took such a poossitive move. At the moment we see 9,000 tscyp's mostly from north Lefkosia employeed in the RoC, imagine what will happen with right incentives the number of tsc's moving to their paphian villages if they had work over there also.

As far as Kykos owning the trnc well that may be the case, but it is also a rich institution and the RoC needs to tax them heavily in order to re-coup some money from taxes to enable the above to take place.

I also believe that the RoC needs to take register of thaose cypriots who will not return north or south so that we know numbers that will need to be re-housed where they are currently living and also for the trnc to know they will not be swamped by refugees returning to their properties. I know of several families who will not return to the north, because they alll now have mansions in the south. whilst i believe that people have the right to do as they please with their property, this is not a normal situation so some of them will need to take compensation and some will be happy to do so. They would not be interested in going back to their orrange groves, some will and thiose need to be able to do so.

In closing here is a hopeful quote "It is not only Belgium but even the super power [the United States] are intimidated by the Greek Cypriots. Both Belgium and the United States is afraid that the Greek Cypriot has a high capability of making noise." And so they should be Injustice has been brought onto Cyprus by the Occupation Forces and it is unacceptable so we need to shout from the roof tops and if Belgiam and US are affraid then they need to do something more than just allowing Turkey a bully country to enter the EU. No country that violate human rights ought to ber given credit for the injustice.
