I've always thought it strange that when a football team fail to perform to expectations on the pitch, it's the Manager that gets fired!
The latest victim to suffer this plight is Martin Jol, the Spurs Manager, whose sacking has been announced this morning.
Surely, if a team doesn't perform well, it's the players fault, not necessarily the Managers. Sure, he's the guy that selects the team, but once they're on the pitch, it's down to these disgustingly overpaid players to do what they're paid for.
I'm a staunch Chelsea fan (have been for 50 years) so have no allegiance to Spurs, but I do perceive this "sack the Manager" mentality as weird.
Anyone else agree?

their board have acted irresponsibly...going behind his back and finally securing Ramos for shitloads of money. But saying that, Jol has taken them as far as he can i personally believe. He's not the man to take them further which they so desperately want.

The players lost faith in him and you can see it the last few games, plus the defending was atrocious. The manager should organising the defence and telling Kaboul not to go walkabout. I'm a Gooner but even i can admit they have some talented players. I wanted him to stay though! lol Very Happy

Martin Jol done wonders for Tottenham. I'm a little sorry he has gone. I'm also disappointed that they sacked Chris Hughton after 30 years loyalty at the club. Even if they didn't want him as assistant manager, at least give him a role as a coach.

I'm very cheesed off at the way the board had acted on this, approaching another manager before the season even started, signing players that the manager didn't want, not signing players the manager wanted. Have to feel sorry for the guy. I'm sure he will be a huge success at his next club. Best manager we've had in the last 20 years or so.

It is easier to sack 1 manager than 20 players Wink And as you said it is the manager who selected the players so ...
