Cyprus rugby reached a new level yesterday Saturday 24th march 2007, when the national team of Cyprus delivered a crushing defeat against greece.
the Cyprus team coached by members of the civilian sides of Cyprus paphos tigers limassol crusaders and nicosia barbarians where well up for this game, the first international match that Cyprus had ever played.
greece where expecting to easily win this game, which they considered as a holiday trip !!!!. instead they faced a very strong Cyprus side  comprising of eligible players living on the island and also Cypriots living and playing overseas in the uk, south Africa and australia, who where all really up for the biggest game in there lives .
greece ended up losing 39-3 to a victorious Cyprus side 
congratulations to out very own webbo from this forum who played in the starting line up for Cyprus, who earned his international place, though hard work and dedication .

Congratulations!  But the score sounds crazy! What happened? Did they really play or they send their reserves for vacation? |

Sotos,
Believe me they played hard but were simply outclassed.
The Greek team commented that Cyprus were the best team they have played in the Mediterranean region.
The scoring system is completely different to most other sports which makes the score seem high to people who don't know the game.
A big thank you to all who came along to spectate including many Cypriots watching the game for the first time. |
