Marcos Baghdtis the No. 16 seed, advanced to the last 16 of a Grand Slam for the fourth time, when Jan Hajek retired with a shoulder injury at Roland Garros Saturday. Baghdatis was leading 6-2, 6-2.
Cyprus star Marcos Baghdatis booked his place in the fourth round of a third different Grand Slam championship.
The No. 16 seed from Limassol was leading Jan Hajek 6-2, 6-2 with 58 minutes on the clock, when the 23-year-old Czech retired with a back injury.
Baghdatis has made two fourth round appearances at the Australian Open in 2005 and 2006 and at Wimbledon last year.
The 21-year-old reached his first career clay-court semifinal at Munich (l. to eventual champion Kohlschreiber) last month. He is now 24-11 this year.
Baghdatis, currently No. 19 in the ATP Rankings, will next meet Igor Andreev of Russia who deated Paul-Henri Mathieu. |
