Empty threats are just that "empty!" Why is Greece so worried? Greece is very capable of defending their cultural identity to worry about FYROM staking claims to Thessaloniki. Aren't their bigger things in Greece to worry about than FYROM. Seems this is all political posturing.

Because by agreeing to the name "Macedonia", Greece would be indirectly recognizing these claims, it's as simple as that. Besides, apart from some diplomatic resources, this dispute has no cost for Greece. On the contrary, 30% of FYROM gdp is generated by Greek investments. It's them who are being silly by pursuing their alytrotic policies

Slovenia is now the first ex-Yugoslavian country to recognise Kosovo's independence from Serbia.

greek god...you as a Hellene should know betta than that in regards to Macedonia...its not about territory..its about protecting our historical identity from theft.

Mikkie2 explained it perfectly

"FYROM is populated by Albanians and Slavs. It has no relationship with ancient Macedonia which was one of the City states that made up ancient Greece. Ancient Macedonia has NO relationship with FYROM.

Yet, FYROM has hijacked Greek ancient history by using its ancient symbols and hijacking its most important historical figure, Alexander the Great, for example, by calling its international airport 'Alexander the Great'. FYROM is an anachronism that was created by Tito of the former Yugoslavia and now all of a sudden, these people want to identify themselves with a people that they have no relation to.

This is what irks the Greeks and its what would irk any other country whose history was being hijacked by another. It is therefore understandable that Greece wishes to protect what is part of its historical identity."
