FWIW, I read today that the Bank of England was going to pump 50 Billion quid (and maybe 100 Billion) into the economy to stop this falling value. Don't really know how this works but it has something to do with banks lending other banks money so the the housing market does not collapse. Maybe Dinos or Johnson&Johnson can fill us in.

Local timeshare place (tourist apartments) a large bottle of Keo cost around €3 and a soft drink (can) is €1.70 - that's in a suburb of Limassol not on the main tourist strip.

Usually, the tourist areas are all competing with each other so you will find varying prices wherever you go.

I dont think they are looking to buy beer & soft drinks at a local grocery store Confused (at least I wouldnt if I was on vacation). What are the prices in a good restaurant, bar or cafe in Limassol? Wink

Grocery store? Who mentioned grocery stores Question

The place I referred to is a holiday complex with a bar, restaurant and swimming pool but it's a Timeshare complex for holidaymakers! We go there for a drink sometimes as it's close by. Those prices are the prices we paid in the bar about 10 days ago.....

The tourist strip in Limassol, you can expect to pay anything from around €2 a pint and upwards, depending on where you go.

Many thanks you all for your kind cooperation.
After all I started to think this is just like in Spain, tourist places are just unafordable. Maybe I'll heve to teach my husband (Who looks far more cypriot than me Wink ) how to ask for drinks so we'll not be cheated and if it didn't work I'll ask my cypriot firiend to show us all arround like a couble of dogs Smile Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

You won't be cheated ... prices will be as on menus. Just that some places are pricier than others.

Paphos tends to be reasonably priced ... still cheaper to eat similar out, than back in UK.

Don't listen to all those envious of thriving popular Paphos ... the landscape is lovely, the weather will be perfect in May ... we have been swimming on and off since January.

There are lots of archaeological sites and lots of trekking to be had at that time of the year before it becomes unbearably hot.

Don't worry about exchange rates ... what's a few quid here or there when you are having a well deserved holiday .... It's not like you are going to spend thousands in an investment ... so exchange at M & S back home (always best rates) .... or at any bank here.

Damn kurupetos

We're thinking of going up to Nicosia for the day this weekend. Will have to stay clear of some of those prices Smile

We may have a wander down Ledra Street too and partake of the new crossing point. We usually use Ledra Palace if we are there for the day but this may make a nice change for us.

We're planning an overnight stop in Nicosia over the coming months - so may be picking a few brains as to best place to stay without it costing us an arm and a leg.

Has anyone heard of the Averof Hotel in Nicosia? It looks really nice on the website.

I would also suggest Holiday Inn beside the bus parking lot in the centre near Eleftheria square.

I've never stayed there but it has excellent restaurants with music and great view of the city.

Also if you like bowling there is a bowling centre near Makario stadium (State Fair grounds). I think the price is around 5 euro per adult.

Also the Cyprus International Fair is from 23 May 2008 - 01 Jun 2008.

Dont miss the best food in town at Zanettos tavern near the Archbiscopic palace in the old city. Reasonable prices. Smile

I hope you will have a great time in Nicosia! Very Happy

I was at a Dinner Dance as the (5*) venus Beach Hotel in Paphos last night, so checked out their prices:

Coffee CYŁ2 = Euro 3.4
Large Carlsberg CYŁ2.50 = Euro 4.48
Whisky CYŁ3 = Euro 5.1
