I see, once again the overzealous eviromental wing comes with potentially devastating human costs.... (See the affects of biofuel on the North Americas, or the inability of sub-saharan africans to mine their fossil fuels due to aid being withheld unless alternative energies are used...) |

| No, I think there objections are regarding the powering of these plants. Use of solar power works well but costs more to set up. Investing in the future and having some forethought genrally pays dividends in the longrun. |

I'd debate that but for the fact that I keep veering off topic...

Nice platitudes, but do you have an alternate solution? |

| What do people think of this: http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/ Cyprus Bringing Water from Turkey. Whatever your opinion on the cyprus problem (i'm pro reunification myself) I can't see this being a good idea at all. There has been much ado about the cost of desalination plants, but surely some of the money coming in from the EU can offset that cost, and if not, well water is a requirement! Given the anecdotal evidence above and the face that I myself have seen many a hosepipe out, it would seem that the outtages are not going to do anything to conserve water... |
The point seems to be missed that Turkey is experiencing something of a water crisis, too, especially in the major urban areas. An article in a daily Turkish newspaper a few days ago describes how Istanbul's reservoirs are only half full at the time of year when they should be full, with the result that the Istanbul water authority has issued a warning for people to cut down on their consumption if they do not wish to go without water this summer. Sure, certain less heavily populated regions of Turkey have water surpluses, but if this extra water is to be transported anywhere, it may end up going to places like Istanbul and Ankara. |

I think they announced an investment in producing the cells themselves… devil was all hot under the collar about it if I remember correctly… |
