The huge difference in buying land and property in the ROC is that the law demands that the seller must be the legal owner with legal deeds in possession and that the buyer on exchanging contracts and fully paying for the land or property receives title of land or property and the legal deeds that the entire world , including the Banking world most importantly , recognises as proper evidence of a legal acquisition of land or property.
The same can not be said when buying property / land that does not have the same credentials and does not withstand the legal tests of a bona fide transaction.
What can be compared is the existence of unscrupulous sellers and developers , one MIGHT be selling or developing property or land belonging to him while the other MUST
LEGALLY be selling , developing land belonging to him.
If during the execution of the sale or development the seller or developer defaults then such act is illegal and can be challenged in the ROC courts. Not so in the "TRNC" which sanctions the sale of G/C properties.
That is the huge difference . |

Gosh please stop throwing the teddies out the pram!!
If you read my postings they are indeed in answer to your scurrilous accusations aimed at me.
I don't and never have lived in gated communities with an entry card and no i do not sit drinking brandy sours, can't stand them and do not drink much anyway. Please stop putting the ex-Pats into one basket. Not all Cypriots are the same and neither are we.
As for my informing you of my attempts to learn the language of the land that was in answer to the comment made that "we" make no attempts to learn the language. I beg very strongly to differ on that one.
Why are you so hostile? All we want to do is fit in and learn and enjoy the Cypriot life.
This was a thread about Conor and his plight, which i attempted to put the record straight and at the same time highlighting our own plight. It seems that yet again we are not allowed to view Cyprus in anything other than rose coloured specs! Cyprus is not perfect, the UK is far from perfect and that is a fact.
Please read and try to understand the written word or would you like me to translate????

I think you will find living in Cyprus is far removed from the banter on forum. I have never had any major problem in Cyprus, be it on the roads with property or the Cypriot people.
Forum is for in some cases letting off steam and in other cases stirring the pot, but generally it is quiet informative and genrally good humoured. |

In answer to a lot of yesterdays point - It all boils down to the law.
I love Cyprus (that’s why I chose to raise my family there) but waited till she was an EU member.
"Buying something I couldn't see, from someone I didn't know" is called CONTRACT law and it’s what makes the world go round and puts the coffee in your cup. Contract law should be respected.
I know the President may have a few things on his agenda. But while you are talking about 1974 - My development - the one where I’m beaten for just stepping on to, is call “Ayios Sergios”
This is a quote from Karayiannas website:-

Isn’t it funny how history repeats itself?
I remember sympathising with Karayiannas over what happened to his family while their staff bounced my children on their knee. Now he does the same to my family.

I don’t actually expect President Christofias himself to go to the lands registry see my contract and drag my developer and his lawyer off to jail. (Although that would be nice)
I THINK there is a system in place to do this. Unfortunately in my case and in so many others the system is corrupt at LOCAL level.
My “right to proper administration” is stated in the EU constitution. If the corrupt officials aren’t exposed in Cyprus and made to pay for their activities, eventually the taxpayer will have to compensate. I’m not letting go - welcome to the EU.
Back on subject:
If you know anyone who is disgruntled at not having his title deeds yet – get his offspring in the UK to contact me and stand shoulder to shoulder Sunday week.
