249 lose licences in April

OVER 200 people lost their driver’s licences in April alone, according to a police announcement yesterday.

According to the police, 249 drivers had their licences revoked – the majority of whom were from the Larnaca district (83). Limassol motorists were the second worst, with 56 of them banned from the island’s roads; the free Famagusta area saw 53 drivers lose their licences, while 49 Nicosia residents had the same fate.

Paphos drivers seemed to be the most efficient, with just eight drivers being banned.

On the first day of April, Doros Achilleos, the head of the Traffic Department of Police Headquarters, announced that 7,241 motorists were in danger of losing their licences after gathering nine penalty points. Around half of those were under the age of 25.

Achilleos suggested that young drivers would be prompted into becoming more road-conscious by attending special road safety seminars in exchange for deducting two points from their licence.

Hotter than they used to be. I never used to see a Police Officer unless I wanted a game of backgammon and a coffee.
I think they have finally cottoned on that breaking the law and imposing fines is a nice little earner..
