Well Deniz if I'd known that you could have called in for tea. (actually I now live 20 minutes from HB) Herne Bay is full of people who moved there for their retirement, sometimes called Hernia Bay. Whitstable has a bit more charm and not quite as depressed but its generally more expensive 'cos wealthy Londoners are buying second homes in the town. Margate is full of GCs but the town is quite depressed, Broadstairs is a better choice. If you want any advice on the area contact me, there are some really nice rural locations and a few to avoid. |
You are right about the much older folk. A few we spoke to referred to HB as another one of Gods waiting rooms. After that debacle our hopes are back in Cyprus. (only if I can pull myself away from the granchildren). |
Next week we are scouring the Cambridge area. Their are some new developments which seem interesting. Havent yet ruled out Kent though. |

Come North Deniz. We are a friendly lot up here. Little or no trouble wide open spaces and neighbours who speak and pass the time of day.
To many people in the south, rush, rush all the time.
Seem to be more and more Cypriots moving here, mainly retired.
Unfortunately not cheap anymore, two bed small cottage sells for £380.000. |

If I had to consider retiring and living in the UK, I would look for something in the countryside surrounding Canterbury (the most spiritual place in the UK  ) .... a roomy farmhouse like the one in "Darling Buds of May". Lots of apple trees. Close to France (Oh I forgot, Deniz doesn't like France  ). |

I do like the Lake district, but with the fine weather currently in the south-east, we will be taking a drive towards Whitstable, but the proximity to Canterbury is putting me off. (undsirables present, not because of Oracles suggestion) 
I was hoping O would invite me to move to the Paphos region. |

You might be right there Kafenes. I have never been to the Paphos area and I do like the mountanous areas of Cyprus. I have land in the south and if the land registry will pull their finger out I will build there. In summer I will tour the area nevertheless. |

My wife is from Cornwall. Its funny that we were talking about Cornwall with our neighbor, who also is from there. She has never once mentioned moving there. I am touched by your concern re our future, but why dont you suggest Cyprus. This poor soul will not steel your bitter lemons. |
