I recently got married, and the avarage from close friends was about 50 pounds (just under 90 euro's). Cousin's gave about 100 pounds and up, aunts and uncles gave about 200 and up.
I did have a friend who gave us 20 pounds, as that's all they could afford.

Bloody hell I've been done .
The last niece's wedding I went to I gave GB£500 in £50 notes ~ but she was a close niece .
No wonder I'm always broke

Fanourios is getting married? Are you sure is true? Maybe is one more of his scams? I can't believe you send money to him again after so many people got cheated by him!!!!! |

I Personally don't like to giving money for wedding presents,
I know they do in Cyprus alot, I feel that the couple might make a comment behind your back (and I say again might.)!!!!
could you consider sending a present to the value you would like to spend, as most of the time people can't price gifts. |

In USA, we have wedding at church, followed by a sit down meal at a really nice hall, with a band or a DJ. classy wedding might have a cocktail hour before the meal.
average wedding has between 150 - 250 guests.
(my wedding had about 25)
the bride throws the bouquet, the groom throws the garter belt, and the recipient puts the gater on the leg of the gal who caught the bouquet.
there is tradition first dance, only the bride and groom, followed by everyone getting up to dance, each couple represents a year of happiness together.
the wedding toast with champaign and cutting of the cake where the bride and the groom feed each other.
the couple then goes on honeymoon, usually for 2 weeks.
when the return to the house for the first time, the groom carried the bride over the threshold.
do orthodox cypriots do it similary?
i would really be interested in your customs, and thank anyone who will respond to shed some light on this. |
