We’re looking for a part-time installer to join our company which provides broadband Internet connections via satellite all over Cyprus.

You would be self-employed, need your own vehicle and need to be able to work on your own initiative. Full training would be provided on our system.

Product details can be found on our web site at www.cyprusbroadband.com

E-mail or PM me for more details on the position.

cyprusgrump, is there demand for your product?

It seems very expensive to me when you have to pay 1000+ pounds for installation and then 63 pounds per month only to be able to download 25MB per day...

There is a huge demand actually!

There are plenty of people in Cyprus that simply have no access to broadband and many that don’t even have a telephone line. Our service brings broadband to the furthest reaches of the island and allows people to run their businesses from here or simply stay in touch with the folks back in the UK.

Although CY£1,000 seems a lot, if you consider the savings you can make actually moving to Cyprus from the UK (just the Council Tax for most people would pay for the installation) it is fairly simple to justify.

The 25Mbyte is a little misleading (we’re in the process of updating the web site). We actually offer unlimited access and up/downloads. We don’t restrict you from uploading or downloading as much data as you like but we have a ‘fair use’ policy which dissuades you from running ‘peer to peer’ software as follows: -

On our Home Surfer package for instance you can upload download as many files as you like. If you download files up to 25Mbyte the system will operate at full speed (network dependent of course) but if you download larger files (say 100Mbyte) the system allows the first 25Mbyte at full speed and then halves the connection speed for the next 25Mbyte. You still get the entire file but it will be slower. If you keep downloading (a huge file, 500Mbyte for instance) the system will slow your connection again until you reach dial-up speeds. Again, the file will arrive but it will take some time. If you stop or pause your download for a few minutes the system will revert to full speed.

In practice, the ‘choking’ will depend on how busy the network is – in the evenings for instance when there are few customers on-line you might find that a 500Mbyte file will download with no restrictions. The choking does not affect web browsing or e-mails, etc.

Dont like the idea of downloads slowing after the first 25mb. I have a small messageboard which I backup very regularly. The SQL database (depending whether I use phpmyadmin, my cpanel or through admin panel, it is over 50mb, then there is downloading the "homebackup" which for me is over 300mb, this will be virtually impossible to do. There are people out there with larger databases and larger directories that need backing up which your service is making it very difficult to do.

Fortunately for me, I live in an area where Ichoice can be used and so to will be Primetel.

I was giving an example – we have a range of packages which range from 512K down to 2M down and daily data ‘limits’ from 25Mbyte to 200Mbyte.

In reality, few customers have a need to ‘instantly’ download files greater than 25Mbyte at top speed. We can also upgrade your service level for a simple ‘phone call if you have periods where you need to upload or download unusually large amounts of data.

Overall, if you are unable to get ADSL it provides an excellent solution. Very Happy
