Lemesos Upset PAOK

Cypriot champions EKA AEL Lemesos are sitting proudly at the top of Group E in the EuroCup after beating Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki on the road on Wednesday.

Lemesos opened their EuroCup campaign with a win over Kalev and their second consecutive victory puts them in a commanding position with four games to play.

PAOK, who lost their EuroCup opener on the road against Fenerbahce, will need to produce victory at home against Kalev on the 9th November if they are to have a chance of advancing to the second round.

Lemesos have been the flag bearers of Cypriot basketball in Europe the past three seasons and their win over PAOK underlines their credentials as a team to be reckoned with.

The Cypriots nearly wrapped up the game in 40 minutes, but PAOK rallied from a seven point deficit at the start of fourth quarter to tie the contest and send it into overtime.

Lemesos, however, had just enough to edge PAOK, outscoring them 7-6 in the extra period to take the game.

Center Michael McDonald top scored with 17 points, although he was a non-factor for most of the game and fouled out after just 20 minutes of playing time. In his absence, Frankie King and Milutin Aleskic stepped up to score 14 points each.

PAOK's Loukas Mavrokefalidis had a game high 24 points.
