I'll put in my penny's worth as well. There are so many Cyprus fora in Greek and Turkish and these tend to be hijacked by the extremist crowd who would view writing in English as beneath them. The good thing about this forum is that English provides people from both sides with a lingua franca and from outside Cyprus with an opportunity for dialogue. If you limit it to the two official languages, you'd have less of a dialogue than a mutual hate-fest in which the only words understood would be profanities.
Demdem, I don't know if you've noticed but this is a CYPRUS FORUM, not an English forum. All things discussed on here are about Cyprus, I don't see much discussion of British pub-licencing laws or the latest Premier League scores, do you? Also, in my experience, increasing numbers of Cypriots ARE able to speak, read and write in English, so your claim that English is not understood by the majority does not hold water. |

Agreed to the administrator’s option too. Writing in English is a good way for us GC's to communicate with the TC's and vice versa, as also to give the opportunity to foreigners to express their opinions about Cyprus. It’s a good thing to know the bad and the good things that foreigners have to say for our island and also for the two communities to have a healthy dialogue to each other.
Anyone has the right to say his/her opinion and everyone has the right to read it understand it and maybe reply to it. |

| on the short time i have been a member of this group and upon reading the different threads of this forum i am pleasantly surprised and happy that this forum is open to everyone, regardless of race or creed, and that as long as everyone respects the differences and diversity, all are welcome. English is a language that is spoken by many from all around the world, and its not just GC and TC that use this site or who live in Cyprus. Its a melting pot of cultures and this is a wonderful forum for bringing people together who would not normally do so. Predjudices, and racialism is a festering sore on the butt of humanity and has no place in society, it corrodes the spirit and destroys people. I personally dont believe in borders, i just believe we are all human beings who have a right to exist and i aknowledge that everyone is trying to make sense of their world. No one said life was going to be fair, injustices prevail, but at the end of the day, its a personal choice on how we deal with it and how we treat others. No one can make you angry, if you choose it not too.. Thankyou for making this site available to all and thanks for their being balanced individuals moderating the site. |

| As a new member to this forum I have read this thread with interest. As I am British and can only speak a few words of greek it would mean people such as myself would be excluded, which would be a shame as there is so much useful information and help here. So thank you for making it available to a wide range of people |
