but as far as i know, they wouldnt mind just an economic union with the EU and avoiding the political part. |

As far as membership is concerned I think most EU countries have made it clear that Turkey will have to clean up their act as far as human rights are concerned before they've got a chance. And we're not just talking about cosmetics but a real change in attitude.
My vote goes for Norway. We've got oil, fish and hydro-electric power enough for everyone, and we're already members in all but name. |

The only problem being is that most Norwegians are against EU membership especially the farmers. Even under the EU they will not be able to get the fat subsidies that they are getting now for growing potatoes in the north. |

Why would the Swiss want to join Europe.
It would mean the loss of their 'neutral' status and whats more they are too smart to give away their money to everone else. |
