Today I saw a poster of Socratis Hassikos in the street. This was the 3rd DISY candidate that I saw having the Greek flag in the background of his poster. (and I am guessing there are many more)

Some days ago in the ANT1 poll they had live connection with an AKEL supporters and a DISY supporters place. The DISY supporters place was filled with Greek flags. I didn't notice even one Cypriot flag.

The most nationalists are, as always, in DISY. It is totally ridiculous when these nationalists, the same ones that supported EOKA B, Grivas etc, now are trying to present themselves as the pioneers of reapprochment with the Turkish Cypriots.

I hope that no Turkish Cypriots, from those few that will vote in these elections, will fall in the trap and vote for DISY.

interesting that you have made the link between greek flags and nationalism (in the cyprus context)...
interesting that you are critising the fact that there was no cypriot flag.

i can also think a few in here ....ahem....ahem....

We (as Cypriots) do demand respect from other nations as an independent and sovereign nation, yet we do not respect our own flag.

Why do we have to display some other nations flag?

Why don’t we live by example!

The Anglo Saxons countries like America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand have all adopted their own flags many years ago. They do not use or display the English flag anywhere.

In fact there is a strict law governing the flags that are enforced by 3-4 different government departments, if any one dares not to adhere and obey the law.

Displaying another flag and the police will rock like a ton of led together with the army, the internal affairs ministry, the ministry of defense. This alone will shake anyone from not enforcing the law let alone the punishment.

But in Cyprus, we are still 100 years behind in many things, including attitudes and respect and observance of the law.

We simply do not have any pride as to who we are.

It is our constitutional right to use the greek or the turkish flag depending on our ethnicity. I agree that using a greek flag in the way DYSI does, is a disgrace. Not even in Greece they do this!

There is no place for you in Cyprus; with your comments in another post stating that all Greeks should be kicked out of Cyprus! You moron.

By the way, I think you'll find that New Zealand and Australia incorporate the British flag within their own flag. WE do not have that privilege, so we do it in other ways. These nations along with others also still refer to Britain as the motherland, I have heard them, it is a shame that some Greek Cypriots seem so quick to forget their roots.

Dear Mr Simon you are wrong!

The Australian flag as well as the New Zealand land flag are different from the english flag

They differ substantially! But its at anyone’s interpretation.

But we have agreed and accepted to use the Cypriot flag since 1960s

Our nation should be build to value respect and display the nation’s flag everywhere as a priority.

All other flags displayed should be smaller in size at a lower mast and also when positioned should be seeing to be secondary.

Never flags of other nations must be allowed to be displayed alone in Cyprus!

That is wrong!

I'm sorry my friend but you are wrong! Firstly, I never said English, I said British. They have different flags. Secondly, if you look at what I said, I did not say that the flags were identical, I said that their flags incorporate the British one - i.e. if you look at their flags, it has a British flag in the corner of its own flag. Just go and look!

My dear friend,

You know you are wrong ( see the american , canadian flags,) and you still have not agreed about the issues i have raised in relation to respect and acceptance and display of the flags

You are simply a waste of time and your thoughts are un patriotic!
