He has travelled east and West , north and south , speaks six languages , Turkish , Greek , English , German , Italian and Russian.Studied medicine in Moscow , eventually giving up medicine to study economics . He came back to his motherland , not Turkey not Greece , but his beloved Cyprus , once the check points were opened anticipating a change to come and hoping for a reunification of his country , only to discover that
people haven't learnt from the past and might just not be ready yet for reunification .
His father was murdered by the TMT way back in 1962 , he was , just as Emin is , outspoken honest , rational and full of love for his birth country his beloved motherland Cyprus.
The fathers name well known to political observers right though the island.
Ayhan Hikmet who was murdered in his bed in April of 1962 , the night that also Ahmet Muzaffer Gurkan was killed .Both published the T/C newspaper " CUMHURIYET", the paper was engaged in a struggle for the Republic of Cyprus to survive and to overcome the destructive and separatist nationalisms that were tearing the newly born republic to pieces.
Both Ayhan Hikmet and Ahmet Muzaffer Gurkan were lawyers and had also set up a political party to make their voices heard.
The Bayraktar mosque was bombed at the time . Ayhan and Ahmet wrote that they would bring down the masks of those who had bombed the mosque. That same night they were silenced .
